Churches Unite

('ongregationalist Denomina
tions Approved by Synod.
Lincoln, I>ec. 19.—(Special.)—For
mal approval was given by officers of
the Nebraska synod of the Presby
terian church for the consolidation
l of its church at Fairmont with that
lot the Congregatlonallsts, one of the

church yet to lie tried in the state.
Both pastors have resigned in order
that the new congregation may elect
its own man. Vntil the new church
board decides on several matters, In
cluding a place of worship, the two
pastors will stay on their jobs.
Under the articles adopted, each
denomination has equal representa
tion on the governing boards, but
there will be two missionary treasur
ers. who will get an equal division
of ull moneys earned for missionary
purposes. The denomination entity

day school and auxiliary societies are
merged along with the congregation.
The two churches have maintained
organizations in Fairmont for more
than a half century. Only three Con
gregutionaJists and two Presbyter
ians voted Hgainst consolidation

Light Company Denies
Proposed Rates High

the Nebraska Power company in con
nection with details of a proposed
new contract for street lighting. De
liberations will be resumed Thurs
day afternoon.
Definite conclusions have not been
reached by the city officials. Power
tomapny officials offered figures to
support their contention that the in
creased rates which they submitted In
a tentative contract ordinance, are
not excessive when cost figures are
considered. They stated that Omaha
has an unusually large area for Its
population and they offered rates of
other cities to show that rates here
»re exceptionally low.
Incidental to the conference the
company announced that It will in
f'll a new type of street lamp globe
4which will allow bugs to drop through
"a hole In the bottom. Ths will ob
viate the necessity of cleaning bugs
from the globes in summer time.
Endres Names Deputies;
Foster Remains Chief
Mike Endres, sheriff-elect, made

head of the morals squad of the po
lice department, under the adminis
tration of J. Dean Ringer, heads the

Effie Grenman. widow of a city
fireman, will be Endres’ stenographer,
and Mrs. Anna Counsman, also a wid
ow of a city fireman, will be matron
of the county Jail.
Endres said he would abolish the
position of assistant bookkeeper now

To Enforce Ash Lift Rule.
Tho police commissioner was di
rected by city council yesterday to
exercise regulation over sidewalk ash
lifts and other forms of sidewalk lift
