vised him, "and get out in the fields
and shuck corn."
Then the magistrate ordered him
held under *1.300 bond for trial in dis
trict court on charges of forgery.
Man Hit by County Auto.

Robert Smith, clerk of the district
court, feels keenly the death of
.tohn Wanamaker, by reason of a
long-to-be remembered visit with the
millionaire merchant and churchman
on June 24, 1921. In Phildelphia.
Before Mr. Smith left, Wanamaker
presented him with two autographed
books, "Daily Meditations,” by John
j llenry Jowett, and "The Witness,”
! by Grace L. H. Lutz.
The late merchant prince also men
tioned to Smith that he had visited
Omaha when he was pustmaster gen
eral during President Harrison's ad
ministration.

Scouts to Serve as Traffic
Officers on Coasting Hills
Volunteer traffic officers for official
coasting hills of Omaha have been
found in 1,000 Boy Scouts. This ar
rangement has been made hyr Scout
Executive Gcndali and Chiefyif Police
Dempsey.
Coasting hours will be from 3 to 9
p. m. except on Sundays when the

Four Motorists Fined.

Clerk Sentenced to Jail.
O. S. Wise, clerk in the shoe depart

fenced to two days in jail by Judge
Wappich in Central police court this
morning on a charge of purloining a
smoking set from the art department
of the store with which to augment
the furnishings of his room in the
Rivard hotel.
Officer Offers to Resign.
City council was scheduled yesterday
morning to hear charges against
Patrolman Frank Dalton, who recent
ly was fined $10 In Centra] police
court for drunkenness. Dalton’s at
torney appeared to say Dalton would
resign If the charges were dismissed

writ** out the name of the city, with the
State, and It may save annoying delay.

together, and If a letter addressed “City''
• ticks to * letter addressed to another city
and should be mlnthrown to that other
city, it Is e matter of chance whether or
not it will be deliveied; and If it Is de
livered thye la sure to he a delay.
Traveling /men sometimes fall into the
habit of using the word “City” as a part
of the address, forgetful of the fact that
when the letter Ik mailed It will not he
in the city in which they r**tde and
therefore delay, and perhaps nondelivery.
