Kmporla, Kan., Nov. 3d. William
Allen White late yesterday blocked the
effort of Governor Allen to have
White's trial on a charge of violating
the Kansas Industrial court law de
layed until the governor had retired
front ofllce. White was arrested for
putting a placard exisresslng BO per
cent sympathy for the striking shop
men in the window of the ofllce of
the Emporia Gazette, of which he Is
editor.
J. W. Harris, In district court here,
refused the request of Governor Allen
that the trial be continued after No
vember 22 as It now appears on the
docket. The Emporia editor said he
was pleased with the situation be
cause it assures him a trial of a real
nature.
"I would rather be sent to Jail for
differing with a governor like Henry
Allen, who has the copper-lined guts
of a real man, than to stick around at
liberty under a milk and water pumpkin-head
like some governors. When
I think of tho kind of a governor Al
len has made, the way he has run
the institutions, the way he has stood
up for the public, the way he has 'fit,'
bled and died for the glory of Kansas,
I'm proud to get a go at him for the
eternal rights of free utterance for the
public along with freedom from in
dustrial oppression for the public,"

over the failure of the Madison coun
ty commissioners to appoint a high
way commissioner., Attention of the
commission ha been called to the

Lyons Boy Burns

Lyons, Neb., Nov. 16. (Special.)
While playing about the barn at the
farm home of his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. William Jones, little Jack Jones,
5. was burned to death.
The flro In the bHrn was discovered
by the mother, who put out calls on
tho telephone lines for help from
neighbors.
The flames wore extinguished nt a
loss of iibniit $2,000, and then the
charred little body of the boy was
found huddled in tho corner of tho
manger.
It Is believed the fire, which was
of undetermined origin, started out
side the barn, and the youngster,
afraid of the flames, ran into tho
manger to hide.
The mother Is prostrated with grief.
Besides his parents, little Jack Is sur
vived by a brother, Itji-hard, 2.
