Reaching from the statement that the present tariff
would add IJ.SO to the price of a pair of fhoe (although
there I no tariff on hoe. hide or leather), to the ophitry
that it will add three billion dollar to the public expense,
although the total receiot of
fifty million dollar, the Senator ha gone the full course of
old-time tarul argument ana opniiry.

He was absent or not voting when the votes were taken
on the wool cloth, cotton, sewing machines, hides, leather,
shoes, sugar, salt, chinaware, buttons, drew steels and clasps,
nooks and eyes, lamp chimney and globes, window glass,
household utensils, aluminumware, and many other domes
tic commodities,
Thus is the Senator weighed und found wanting in re-
igard to the present tariff issue.
He urges the voters of
senate to oppose a tariff bill which he say Is wrong. Yet,
in the senate where his vote would count if the bill were
wrong, he is absent or not voting 158 time out of 283, or
almost 60 per cent of the time.
The Senator oppose the tariff in Nebraska, where he
hopes to confuse the voter, but he failed to vote in Washing
ton where his vote would change the schedules.
Thus, out of his position on the tariff as well as the
crohibition and manv other ouestions. is th micKlion of Kin.

Like his temporary companion-in-arms, Hrother Charley,
Hitchcock is attempting to win votes by false pretence.
