Autzie Invincible.
The challenging combination wa
imjily invincible this afternoon.
Wood and Patterson o completely
outplayed Tilden and Kichard that
the latter appeared almost in the
light of novice by comparison. Cer
tainly m team partner they played
in the light of strangers. There wa
no disposition of the play in which
the American stood out as superior
'to the Auzzics. Outshining the other
players on the court was fat O'Ifara
Wood. No auch exhibition of light-iiing-like
stroking and thinking has
been witnessed since Brookes flashed
hi racquet eight year ago. No ball
wa too fast or stroke too quick for
Wood to return. His quick sense of
an opruing and hi meteor-like re
turn from close to the corded bar
rier stood both Richard and Tilden,
figuratively speaking, on their heads.
In fact, the latter frequently brought
rounds of laughter from the 12,000
spectator composing the gallery
when he instinctively ducked these
flashing shots instead of attempting
their return. t , .
Patterson, ranging wide in the
deeper recesse of the court, proved
a wonderful supporting partner to
Wood. Hi full-length mashe fre
quently forced - either Tilden or
Kichard into errors or weak return
that offered easy opportunities for
Wood finishing shot.
American Outclassed.
When Patterson himself came up
to the net to aid his partner, and
these occasions were frequent, he
also launched terrific driver and
kills, sometimes sending the ball on
the bound into the stands back of the
court in a manner made (famous by
Maurice McLoughlin a few years ago.
Brilliant a Tilden and Richards
a'e individually, they could offer no
sustained defense to the perfected
attack of their opponents. They
were repeatedly forced back beyond
their own base line, split wide apart
,to the corners of the court or aligned
behind each other in the center of
their own territory by the tactic of
the "down under" players. Forced
into these unorthodox positions, they
exposed themselves to easy passing
spots or piled up nets and outs.

'I'll Finish Him This Time," Chirps
Nichols-"He's Delirious," Says Kid
Johnny Nichols, who has all but
draped Schlaifer over the rope in
two bouts at the City punch dispen
sary, arrived in Omaha this morn
ins to finish the job.
You see," said Nichols, "I got
a bad start in our last fight at Hib
ting, Minn. I ttepped out. a little
careless I'll admit, and Schlaifer
swatted me on the chin. i
"Now, I ain't got any glass in my
jaw, but when this fh!:rcw lets one
fly from the ground you're lucky
to survive it.
"Well, that first punch showed me
up and I never , was able to . get
going,
"But watch my moke this time."
"He' having another bad dream,"
comments Schlaifer.
So the Schlaifer-Nichol feud
should have its inning Monday night
in the City Auditorium. It very prob
able that it won't go the limit.
Schlaifer hat improved a lot since
the two fights in Omhaa more than
a year ago in which he was on the
losing end.
Nichols it a veteran and hasn't im
proved. Al Van Ryan, the St. Paul fighter
pressman, also hat "checked in."
All the fighter are working out at
the Orpheum gym but at different
hours.
