composure. Today's market re
opened in what appeared to be an
atmoiphere of still greater confi
dence that the solution of the coal
and railway strike problems was not
far distant. Railway aharcs led the
further recovery which occurred,
many of them advancing a point or
more and practically all of them
doting at the day's best prices.
The president s proposal made to
both parties in the shopmen s con
troveriy during the afternoon that
the seniority attrition be left for
decision to the rairway labor board
may have embodied tl turn of
events which financial markets had
been expecting. If the new pro
posal is accepted by managements
and unions, the shopmen's strike
would doubtless end. but the ju
dicial quality of the labor board
would be tested exactingly after
ward.

steady tendency In Brazil. The opening
was unchanged to- 2 points higher and
the market closed net unchanged to 4
points higher, with December selling ' at
9.37 to 9.38c. Sales were estimated at
about 3.000 bags. September. 9.37c; Oc
tober and December, 9.38c; January, March,
May and July, 9.39c.
Spot Coffee Market dull, Rio 7s, 9 to
10c; Santos 4s, 14 to 14c; cost and
freight offers were irregular Including
Santos 3s and 6s, part bourbon, at 13.60c
for prompt and 13,20 to 18.60c for September-October
shipment. Rio 7s were of
fered at 1.50o for September-October ship
ment. The official cables quoted Rio 25 rels
higher to 26 rels lower and Santos 25
