ent to ask for a consolidation of stale
offices. If the arrangement is rati
fied by the Colorado members it will
result in practically doubling the
amount of wheat to be handled
through the Trenton office.

Exporters were said to have been
good buyers on the recent break
and as receipts were considerably
lighter this morning prices of wheat
were strong and climbed to higher
ranges, but pot fully regaining the
lotset of yesterday. Parts of Cana
da are needing rain but as a whole
conditions are better than last year.
The car situation it no better and
is hampering the movement of grain.
Receipts of wheat at Omaha were
only 107 cars this morning, as com
pared with 517 cars last year. re
ceipts of other grains were very
light. Total shipments were 139
cart against 30o cart last year.
Cash wheat in the local market
was in good demand and prices were
quoted 'A2c higher, being gener
ally 2c higher. Corn sold unchanged
to He up. Oats were unchanged
to l.c higher. Rye was unchanged
and barley was 2c higher.

home. Detectives Francl 'and Sum
mitt poured water down the hole
until the man crawled out and sur
rendered. McBride is held for investigation.
He is alleged to have "gone to the
home of his mother, Mrs. Anna M.
McBride, 3002 Dodge street, and to
have called Bob Neil, 320 North
Nineteenth street, to the house,
where he sold a $260 talking machine
for $60. Glen ff. Bohley, a roomer,
called the detectives.
Drug Clerk Arrested on
Suspicion of Check Forgery
Harry Taylor, 2428 Decatur street,
until two weeks ago a clerk in the
Rialto drug store,. Fifteenth and
Douglas streets, was arrested yester
day by Detectives Francl and Sum
mit and Patrolman Jenkins.
Taylor is alleged to have stolen a
pad of blank checks from the store
and to have forged the name of
Henry G. Lieb,' owner, to several
checks that he cashed.

theater by Everett's Monkeys. The
curtain rises upan a miniature stage. The
monkey orchestra atrlkes up a snappy
tune, a simian pane appears with cards
Announcing the various acta and then the
monk performers do their various stunts.
It took EVerett many months to train
the animals who do. their work without
any one being on the stage. One ot the
most difficult teats was to train one
monk to Juggle with fireworks. The
average monkey is deathly afraid of fire
and for this reason It took much patience
and time to show the monk that it he
did his work properly no harm would
come to him. The entire six act bill em
braces a wide variety of entertainment.

Mississippi and Louisiana shows that
weather conditions have been favorable
for general advancement of crops. Wheat

cent: oata, 80 per cent. Iowa corn, 95
per cent; wheat. 98 per cent; barley, 95
per cent; rye, 88 per cent. Corn condi
tion In Kentucky and Tennessee, 80 per
cent; cotton, 75 per cent; tobacco, 92 per
cent, other states, corn, 93 per cent; cot
ton, 85 per ent; sugarcane, 100 per cent:
rye, 75 per cent.
Lake rates from Chicago to Buffalo
have advanced to 3 cents for wheat and
corn, while to Georgian bay they are
3 4c, with a special understanding as re
gards unloading boats. The big shippers
have chartered room freely and are not
selling corn or other grains for nearby
shipment, unless they have the grain un
loaded. As on shipper put it, "We are
taking no chances." The lake rate of 3c
a bushel on graina materially narrowed
the spread between the lake and rail and
all rail rate to the aeaboard.
E. W. Wagner & Co. are to pay 60
rents cash and 60 cents In notes, running
five years, to their 6,500 creditors. The
cash Is to be paid out within 60 daya and

New York Sugar.
New York. July 25. The raw sugar
market was more active today and prices
were higher with Cubas quoted at 34c,
cost and freight, equal to 6.36c for centri
fugal and Porto Ricos at the same level.
There were sales of fully 250.000 bags of
Cubas and 61,000 bags of Porto Ricos for
July and August shipment to local and
outport refiners at quoted prices.
The strength in the spot market led to
renewed buying in raw sugar futures and
closing prices showed net advances of six
to 12 points, the highest levels recorded
so far this year. Trade interests were
again active buvers whila there wee
continued buying by outside interests in
cluding the west. September, 3.79c; De
cember, 3.93c; March. 3.69c: Mav. 3 79c.
The market for refnled was firmer
with a more active inquiry for both
domestic and export account. Prices were
unchanged to 10 points hlsrher. with fine
granulated now listed at 6.80c to 7c.
There was a little more activity in re
fined futures and closing prices were tin
changed to 25 points higher. Trading was
confined to the November position at 7c.

New York Cotton.
New York. July 25. The list was finally
steady In a see-saw session in the cotton
market today. In forenoon dealings there
were both a moderate hnlae enrf e de
cline, with the general tendency to lower
prices toward midsesslon. After a
steady and narrow opening scattered profit
taKing from shorts and a little trade buy
ing was met. which lifted prices about
5 to 18 points over last year. But in the
early afternoon the market turned weak
and dropped 25 to 45 points under last
night's close, accelerated by the uncover
ing of scattered stop loss orders. The last
half hour saw another reversal of trend
which carried prices back almost on a
level with the early high. There was
active short covering at the close, with
prices 4 to 16 points net higher.
Spot cotton was quiet, 20 points ad
vance. 21.65c for middling upland.
Southern spot markets: Galveston, 22c.
unchanged: New Orleans, 21.60c. un
changed: Savannah. 21.40c, 2 points ad
vance: Augusta, 21.88c. 25 points decline;
Memphis, 22.50c. unchanged; Houston,

teachrd a stage at which the railway

administration will be compelled to
ftake a position in the coal itrike
controversy which will at least
bring matters to a head. It is quite
true that a situation is also coming
definitely into sight in which deple
tion of fuel supply would seriously
handicap industrial production and in
which continued embargo oil their
mechanical facilities would seriously
embarrass the railways. Out, on the
other hand, experience teaches that
it is precisely this approach of
gravely troublesome consequences of
labor disputes which is likely to
force a settlement. That is one
reason for the proverbial unwilling
ness of the stock exchange to "sell
stocks on a strike." The stock mar
ket has also presumably been influ
enced by its ideas' as to the kind of
autumn industrial' activity which
would ensue if the strikes were to
be terminated.
