l V :' THE OMAHA BEE: FRIDAY, JULY 2), 1022. Dan Tipple Beats Tulsa in Double-Header Roy Spencer Swings Mean Bat -.1 Buffaloes Cop First, 2-1, and Second, 5 to 4 Omaha Plays Good Dall in Both Games Boehler and LuLanovic Los ing Hurler. By RALPH WAGNER. F harassed too much. Buffalo will set mean and sometimes act. sort of wild. That is ex 1 ictly what happened out at the Fifteenth and Vinton street pasture yesterday. Al trr Jack I.elivelt'a Tulsa Oilcri bumped the Buffaloes for 4 to 3 vic tory in the first game of the series Wednesday, the Buffaloes turned on the southerners yesterday and kicked the Oilers out of a rouble-header by the scores ot i to 1 and 5 to 4. Dan Tipple, who hurled (or Omaha 12 years ago, hurled again yesterday and what we mean, he hurled. Daniel was in ex cellent form and not only won the first game,, but came right back in the second and de feated the Oilers, 5 to 4. It was a bad pill for the Tulsa athletes to swal low this double de feat. Lelivelt's chesty knights of of the stick played good ball in both Dan Tlppla games, but the Buffaloes played a little better. But It's a grand and glorious oh boyt feelin the cash customers 'get when they can witness the Buffaloes thump the Oilers out of a double-header. The Oilers are second in the league stand ings and for a fifth-place club to come along and take the Tulsa' crowd "down a couple games means a whole lot, gents. Spencer Stars. To Roy Spencer belongs the hitting el ft a honors of the double-header. It was Spencer's double in the seventh in ning of the first game that won the contest for the "home boys" and it was his homer in the seventh inning of the second game that again beat Tulsa. Out of five times at bat in two games, Roy is credited with two singles, a double and a homer. Not . o bad, ehl George Boehlcr, the ace of the Tulsa hurling staff and considered one of the best apple heavers in "Pa" Tearney's select circle, toiled through the first game. George, who has won 20 games and lost eight thus far this season, toiled hard, but the Buffaloes acted mean all afternoon and chased f Mr. BochJer for nine hits in the first came. George whiffed eight Buf faloes, but he whiffed some of 'em at tht wrong times. Boehler allowed a single in the first innin and then tamed the herd for the following three frames. In the fifth, Buffalo Wilcox broke loose and smashed a single to center. Spen cer planted the agate out in left gar den for a single and Wilcox beat it down to second. Tipple wasn't ex pected to hit and he didn't. "Whitey" Gislason came through with a one base blow to left and Wilcox scored. Boehler put the halter cm the Buf faloes in the sixth, but the Buffaloes broke it again in the sixth when Her man singled. Griffin singled to right and the "Babe" went to third. Wil cox skied out, but Spencer came through with a double, scoring Her man with the winning run. Score in Fourth. Tinole stood the Oilers on their respective bonnets in the first three innings of the initial contest. In the fourth, after "Yank" Davis whiffed, Lyman Lamb doubled to left, scoring the onlyulsa tally when Jack Leli velt singled to left. Tipple tightened and fanned the next two Oilers. Daniel allowed Lelivelt's outfit four scattered hits, one coming in the first, two in the fourth and the final bingle in the sixth. Of the four hits, two were doubles by Lamb. The second game was another pretty piece of hurling on the part of Mr. Tipple. Dan wasn't so stingy with his hits in this game, allowing the visitors eight, of which four were doubles. The Omaha infield was hittin' on all six and didn't show the slightest signs of crackin' under the strain of the double-header. Thomas Lukanovic labored ; for Tulsa. Tom also was nicked for eight hits, two being doubles and one homer. Dan and Tom each struck out foor batters, bnt Tom allowed only two base on balls, while Daniel strolled four Oilers. Stuart wiggled Tipple out of three bases on balls. Forge Ahead in Seventh. With the Oilers holding a 4 to 3 advantage in the seventh, Wilcox singled to center. No hands were down when Roy Spencer picked up his bludgeon and walked to the plate. Tom got one strike on Roy and then Roy knocked the ball, cover and all over the left field timebr for a homer, Wilcox with the tieing run "and scoring the winning tally him self. Things looked bad for Tipple in the ninth when Mclnnis doubled to left. Crosby walked and then Frank Thompson, pinch-hitting for Lukan ovic came to bat. - Frank expected to sacrifice . Mclnnis to third, but Apperson played shallow and held the Oiler shortstop on second. Tipple then made quick work of the next two Oilers, giving them the sir via strike out.
