Chicago Grain
By CHARLES D. MICHAELS.
Chicago, July 17. The grain trade
acted on the bullish newa early and
ignored it later. Advances in the
hr4t hour were all lot by midday.
The nniih was weak at about the
lowest prices. Buying support was
roor. .Net declines tor the day were
! 4 (ft 2c on wheat, fjt&Jc on corn,
and ! 5sC on rye. December led
the decline on all grains.
The wheat trade wa bullish early,
but became bearish later. Higher
cables, with an advance of 2t.d
in Liverpool, combined with buying
by eastern houses and thorti ad
vanced wheat prices early. There
were limited offerings and little out
side buying support. This became a
factor later in the da v. Then a sell
ing movement started, due to reports
from New York that the railroad
strike probably would be aettled on
Thursday. Hull news had little tl
feet though it included black runt
damage and the decrease of 1.570,000
bushels in the visible supply, com
pared with an increase of 3.968,000
bushel utt year. July dropped
from $I.17H to $1.14 and September
from $1.1S4 to $1.11 The close
wat on a fractional rally.

Northweetern traders sold ry fairly and
local operators bought September rye and

Pit X4eew
It It eald that the heavy aelllng of
wheat by Thomaon and McKlnnon and
Bennett, which led to tho break, was for

disposition to respond to tho bulllah newa.
