The Cubs management also an
nounced the outright release of Alex
Freeman, pitcher.
Pitcher Eubanks, who was discov
ered in Dallas, Tex., by Scout Jack
Doyle, is expected to report to the
Cubs today. Doyle claims that Eu
banks is a youngster of promise.
McKechnie Honored.
Pittsburgh, July 7. Bill Mc
Kechnie, new manager of the Pitts
burgh Nationals, wilt be honored at
Forbes Field here on July 12, when
Pirate followers will observe "Mc
Kechnie Day." The celebration will
be lead by fans of Wilkinsburg, in
the suburb where McKechnie main
tains his home.

Roy Elah, 24-year-old Sioux City
Western league outfielder, to the
Pittsburgh Pirates for a record
breaking Western league price was
announced here late today hy
"Chick" Mattick, manager of t lie
Packers.
The Sioux City club will receive
Outfielder John Mckan - and .two
other Pittsburgh players and a cash
consideration for Elsh, making the
total amount of money involved ap
proximately $16,0M).
Sale of I far per by Oklahoma City
to the Cincinnati Kcds for $15,000
last year has been the record price
for a ball player purchased out ol
the Western league.
Elsh, who is playing his first year
of professional baseball, will report to
the Pirates after the Saturday gain:

Elsh was with Denver in the Mid
west league last season. Despite his
youth and inexperience in profes
sional baseball, he has been close to
the top in league batting all season,
having a standing of .362 in this
week's averages. Earlier in the sea
son he was above the .400 mark for
several weeks. He is second in the
league in stolen bases and is gener
ally considered the best outfielder in
the circuit.
While the Packers were in the
southern end of the circuit major
league scouts flocked southward to
see the Packer outfielder in action.
Bill Hinchman, scout for the -Pitts
burgh club, watched Elsh play in
Oklahoma. City and obtained an op

Kee of Des Moines, the 1919 cham
pion, 4 up and 3 to play, and Bart
lett defeated James Hubbell, the Des
Moines Golf and Country club, 8 up
and 6 to play.

Bartlett set a course record of 68 in
the morning 18 holes. He shot a 34
out and a 34 in and had three ,-fours"

Knepper also shot sensationally,
especially in the morning, defeating
McKee. He made the first nine holes
in 34, which is four under par. This

trouble with his putting, and reached
the half-way mark 1 up with a 72 to
McKee's 74.
McKee won the first two holes in
the afternoon and was up on his op
ponent for the only time during the
match. Knepper took the third hole
and was never behind again. The

homer in the ninth when two were
down. The Fackcrs came back in
their half and won the game when
Hemingway walked, advanced to
third on Elsb's single, and came
home on Ostergard's hit into right
