ation by $6,567,000. mostly for the
purchase of aircraft.
As agreed in the conference, the
bill carries about $29J,000.000 and the
conference report is to be hurried
through congress before the proposed
house adjournment tomorrow if possible.

Beatrice City Officials Act
to Relieve Water Shortage
Beatrice, Neb., June 23. (Special
Telegram.) Mayor Farlow and the
city commissioners are making plans
to relieve the water famine here by
connecting up a new well which is
being sunk near Zimmerman Springs,
northwest of. Beatrice, with the city
mains. They estimate a flow of
200,000 gallons every 24 hours from
this well in addition to the present
supply which comes from the
springs. No city water has been
available here for lawns the past
month because of the shortage, the
wells having been almost ruined by
the prolonged dry weather.
Omaha Attorney Denied
Interview With Fred Brown
Lincoln, June 23. (Special.) J.
R. Lones. Omaha, attorney for Fred
Brown, famous Nebraska fugitive,
called to see Brown at the state peni
tentiary today, but was denied the in
terview. Warden Fenton announced
that anyone desiring to talk with
Brown must get the consent of State
Sheriff Gus Hyers.

when they were brought up in the
house of commons by Col. Wedg
woQd, who asked what action had
been taken regarding the imminent
attempt at restoration of the Hohcn
zollerns in Germany and whether
Trance had raised again the ques

debts in exchange for a reduction in
their reparations claims.
Cecil Harmsworth, parliamentary
undersecretary for foreign affairs, re
plying in behalf of the government,
admitted that information had been
received concerning a coup d'etat
to restore the former kaiser or crown
prince to the throne, but said noth
ing definite was known.
Harmsworth Replies.
"Will the prime minister make it
clear that such a restoration would
be regarded as an unfriendly act?"
asked Col. Wedgwood. .
Mr. Harmsworth replied. "Noth
ing would be gained by a discussion
of any policy which might be adopted
by the allied and associated powers
after such an event."
Regarding the debt, Col.' Wedg
wood insisted that France had been
told that Great Britain could not
consider cancellation of the French
indebtedness untess cancellation of
Great Britain's debt to America oc
curred simultaneously.
Prime Minister Lloyd George ad
mitted that he and Premier Poiucare
had discussed the subject .of. concel
lation, but he added that the Eng
lish taxpayers, could not afford to
remit sums due Great Britain, warn
ing creditor nations that Great Bri
tain intended to ask for payment of
the interest due from October next.
Believe Plan Considered.
Despite the ambiguity of the gov
ernment's reply, a belief is held that
negotiations are under way between
France and Great Britain for draft
ing a comprehensive and detailed
plan for writing off a bulk of the
international debts, including Amer
ica's advances to the allies during the
war, which will be presented at a
future conference if the United States
accepts an invitation to participate.

Sheriff J. W. McUniel of Sidney
arrived at ths state penitentiary to
day with James M. Trice, who must
rrve from one to 20 years for shoot
ing with intent to kill. Two week
ago Price shot and slightly wounded
the sheriff when the latter attempted
to arrett him. Price, according to
authorities, talk continually of a
mob following him from Utah and
declared he believed McUaniels was
a member of the mob. Little mfor
nation about him has been obtained

on Code Bill Referendum
Lincoln, June 2J. Attorney Gen
eral Clarence IJavis today hied the
answer of Darius M. Anuberry, sec
retary of state, in the mandamus ac
tion brought against the latter by
Orville Jones of , Lincoln, to compel
the secretary to submit the code
law to a referendum of the people
in the November election.
The answer sets up a prior man
damus action filed in 1919 in bar of
the present case and declares the
whole matter has once been adjudi
cated in the courts.

All special federal taxes are' due
July 1, J. P. Foley of the internal
revenue department announces.
This includes pool halls, theaters
and other amusement houses, exhibi
tions and the like.
Doctors, dentists and others han
dling narcotic drugs are required to
be registered and to have their li
cense fee paid on or before July 1,

ruling of the department.

for Game Law Violation

Crush thoroughly about 2',i quarts
ripe fruit. Add Vt cup water, stii
until boiling, cover pan and simmer
10 minutes. Placo in jelly bag and
firess out juice. Measure 4 cups

7'4 leveled cups (34 lbs.) sugar
in sepaifcte pan. Bring juice just
to boil and begin to add sugar
slowly, with constant stirring, tak
ing about 5 minutes to add all the
sugar, and keeping juice nearly at
the boil. Then bring to the boll ;

Continue to stir and bring again to
a hard boil for Vt minute, stirring
continually. Take from fire, let
stand 1 minute, skim and pout
