North claimed there was no agree ment to repurchase the stock now in the possession of Munroe, and de clared the latter got the stock in re turn for a theater in Missouri which vas not making money, and which, at his request, the Hostettler com pany took over. Munroe pleaded later he was short of money, North said, and the Hostettlerg gave him $2,000 for part of the stock they had given him in pafment for the Missouri theater. Real Estate Man Held for Forgery of $230 Checks Alleged to have passed 10 worth less checks for a total of $250 Mel vin L. Smith, real estate dealer, Lcfiang building, was arrested yes terday by William M. Davis, de tective, on a charge of forgery. The checks held by detectives were signed with the name of C. P. Simp son, retired farmer of O'Neiil, Neb., and were endorsed with the name of Smith. Simpson is said to have told the officers he did not know Smith. Five of the checks were cashed by T. L. Jordon, 207 North Sixteenth street, who caused Smith's arrest. Smith denied any criminal guilt, lut was booked for forgery. Separate Picnics. Retail grocers and retail , butchers will hold separate picnics this year for "business reasons," it was an nounced by the grocers following a meeting at the Chamber of Com merce Thursday. The grocers' picnic will be held at Krug park, July 20. A special fund was started to be used in enforcing the Sunday closing law "to the letter."
