Country cluh. 6 and 5: Mrs. Arnold put in a hid to retain her tijte again ny trimming Mrs. Itlaiue Young, Field cluh, 2' and 1. and Miss Peters was given the battle of her tournament career to beat Mr.' Ceorge Rcdick one up on the home green. In the semi-finals this morning. Mrs. Lcvings will play Mrs. Arnold, and Mrs. Johnson will match sticks against Miss Peters. The winners of these contest will play tomorrow afternoon for the championship. Mrs. John Caldwell and Mrs. John Redick. both of the Country cluh. staged a spectacular extra-hole match in the championship consolation flight. Mrs Caldwell winning on the 19th green. Extra Hole Matches Feature. The match between Mrs. J. T. Stewart, Country cluh. and Mrs. Karl Lininger, riappy Hollow club, and runner-up last year, which Mrs. Lininger won, 2 up, also commanded the attention of the feminine club wielders. Two extra hole matches featured the second flight. Mrs. B. O. Bruing ton. Council Bluffs Country club, de feated Mrs. M. V. Morris, Happy Hollow club, on the 19th green, and Mrs. S. S. Caldwell, beating Mrs. Joe Davis of the Hastings Country club in a spectacular 20-hole battle. Mrs. Silver played a consistent game against Mrs. Johnson and would have vn had she been plac ing in the same form as in the quali fying round. Takes 45 on Outside. Mrs. Johnson took a 45 on the out side, and had the match gone to the home green her inside score would have been around 97. She made several holes in par and bogey. Mrs. Silver took a 52 going out and would have taken about a 49 coming in, making her score about two over her qualifying score of 99, which was just one over the score with which Mrs. Mark Levings quali fied as low medalist. Mrs. Johnson was two up, at the turn and Mrs. Silver even. Safe or Out Q. Is the umpire allowed to 'reverse his decision? , A. Jack Dempsey again is assailed as an al leged slacker, his "exprcsscn intention o wear the American flag as his col ors in his forthcoming fight with Bill Brennan at Michigan City ' is attacked and patriots are urged to stay away from his fights, in resolutions adopt ed by the San Francisco County council of the American Legion and published today. Ihe resolutions state in part: "Wc believe Jack Dempsey to have proven himself devoid of patriotic in stincts during the world war by ab staining from military service at a time when thousands of his lellows were wearing the uniform of Uncle Sam's fighting forces." Maroon Golfers Win Chicago, June 21. -The Univer sity of Chicago golf team won the first official golf championship of the Western conference at the Midlo thian Country club Wednesday with a low combined medal score of 639. The Pirates made 25 hits and the Dodgers, 19, nine pitchers taking part. Brooklyn gained a five-run lead in the early innings, the Pirates tieing it up with a four-run rally in the eighth. The visitors next went ahead by two runs in the ninth but the Dodgers tied it again.
