This is especially true of those interested in livestock raising. Inquiries and other information gath ered by the college of agriculture ex tension service point to the fact that probably 3,000 boys and girls will bo members of livestock clubs this year. At least 175 pig clubs will bo form ed, or almost double tho number of last year. There were twenty-two calf clubs last year and indications are that' the number may be doubled this year, ' Tho low price at which purebred stock may be purchased this year is given as one of the reasons so many juniors desire membership in live stock clubs. Raising stock is also us ually profitable, as well as highly interesting for tho youngsters. Hall county, which had no pig clubs last year, has asked for five this year. Howard county had only one pig club last year; this year it wants four. Several other counties are eith er new in the work or are increasing tho number of their livestock clubs. Poultry clubs are continuing pop ular and the number this year will likely go much over tho eighty mark reached last year. Poultry work for boys and girls is conducted thru three progressive stages, first year clubs devoting their attention to general poultry raising, second year clubs to egg production, and third year clubs to poultry breeding. Clay and Nuck olls counties have several clubs which have reached tho third stage. There is evidence that many, boys and girls are losing interest in gar den, rabbit, corn, potato and some other clubs which have been, sp.pop ular in the past. Strnwberry,"grapo and sheep represent new kinds of clubs for which there is some- de mand this year. f One of the features of the club work this year is the way girls are breaking into the livestock! game. While about one-fifth' of flhedirestock club members last year .were girls those directing the work at the col lege of agriculture would not be sur prised to see nearly half the mem bership girh this year. Many girls are asking admission to livestock clubs, and there is evidence that there may bo more girls interested .in pig and calf clubs than in cooking and baking.
