Tho states represented were: Iowa, Illinois, Indiana,. Michigan, Kansas ana Nebraska. Elmer E. Youngs, president of the Nebraska Federation, was choson as, chairmen of the meetings nnd.ChasR. Wool:, secretary of tho Kansas Federation, secretary. Closer co-operation between the firm bureaus and the department m' agriculture was practically assured following a discussion lcdbylvanhoo Whittcd of Iown, when n resolution was passed urging tho need of nn appropriation of sufficient volume to carry on tho work of collecting, tab ulating and disseminating statistical information so vital to tho farmer, breeder and feeder. Several farm bureaus have main tained statistical departments in se curing data on live stock in tho dif ferent states bnt tho sentiment pre vailed that such work was moro or less of n duplication of tho efforts of the bureau of crop estimates. Mem bers of tho bureau of crop estimates pointed out that work similar to that undertaken by tho farm bureaus had been planned by their department but they had been handicapped by lack of funds. Tho bureau was represented in the discussion by Frank S. Finney, of Iown, E. C. I'axton of Kansas, Geo. C. Bryant of Indiana, and E. A. Lo gan of Missouri. Some criticism was made of the reports and bulletins issued by tho department of agriculture. It seem- 1 J. t ll jl j il j en io uo inc opuiiun inut me larmcrs were not securing practical benefit from them, chiefly through their own fault. It was suggested that the farm bureau establish some system of getting these figures and informa tion to tho farmers in n moro prac tical form. Progress of the legislative depart ments of the different federations was given by Howard Leonard, president of the Illinois Agricultural Associa tion; R. Morrill, president of tho Michigan federation; and C. W. Hunt, president of tho Iowa federation. Mr. Morrill said that ono of the first steps taken by Michigan was towards tho maintenance of the state constb- ulary. Tho question of membership fees brought out a vnricd opinion. J. M. Rynn, campaign manager of Kansas cited the mistake his state m.ido when it inaugurated n SI member- m on the " Parley o' stuff ! 20 for 20 cents In air-ti&Ut packages. .Also obtainable in round tins of SO, vncuum-sonlcc.
