Code Bill Knocked Out
The Supreme Court, Saturday, decid
ed that (Jov. McKelvio's pet hobble,
"Tlie Code Law" will have to be voted
on at the generul election, this fall.
During the first six mouths it was in
operutioa it cost the tax payers of this
grand old state 8(T,000 and tlio law is
now void.

The seventh grade will take" exam
inations only in tho following sub
jects: Orthography, Writing, Physi
ology, Drawing and Mental Arithme
tic. Pupils should write answers in
clear, consice terms; the questions
need not lc written. A complete
solution of all problems in arithmetic
should be given. Credit will he de
ducted from carelessly written or il-
ifgiblo papers. Remember, the gon
n'al average in the fourteen subjects
required must he at least seventy-live
per cent, with no grade below sixty
per cent in any suhr-jct. Teachers
should plan the examinations for tho
pupils, advising thorn as to the sub
jects on which they should write, and
urging them to take tiie full time al
lowed for each subject and to write
every paper 'as neatly and carefully
a.i possible. All papers should bi
written in pen and ink; tho drawings
may be made with lead pencil. Pu
pils should pin the pages of each sub
ject together with all edges even. No
whispering will be permitted. Grades
of pupils violating this rule will be
cancelled. Conductors are not to ex
plain the meaning of any of the ques
tions given in the lists, or answer
any question relating to their ans
wers. Tho examination questions
arc stated plainly enougli for one
who knows iis subject.
All pupils, desiring to avail them
selves of the free high school law,
must pass this examination. The
parents ot every pupil, entitled to a
free high school certificate, should
make written applications to tho
County Superintendent within the'
forty days preceding the first Moti
lity in Juno.
