CAN'T FORCE CONSOLIDATION
State Superintendent Matzcn will
send out In a few days from his office
a letter to the 300 consolidated school
district committees in the ninety
three counties of the state, explain
ing, In succinct form, what the law
provides, and that the boundaries fix
ed by tlie committee do not become
operative 'until the voters so declare.
The letter is:
"To the school redisricting com
mittees of Nebraska:
"Since there seems to be consider
able misunderstanding relative to the
provisions of the new rcdistricting
law, regarding the vote on the ques
tion of the formation of n new con
solidated district, I desire to herewith
give the opinion of this department
on this matter. ,
"There arc always two ways by
which consolidation may be effected
under this law. One way applies to
an open country consolidation, and
the other to a consolidation around an
'organized consolidated or high school
district.'
"To effect a consolidation around
an 'organized consolidated or high
school district it is necessary that
not less than'fifty-ono per cent of the
school electors in said new district,
