Armistice Day Observed As scheduled, Armistice Bay, Tues day, November 1 lth was observed in Red Cloud. The rains of the two days previous iuterferred to a considerable extent with the carrying out of ihe program which had been arranged for the day. The almost impassible condi tion of the roaJs made it impossible for many of the rural people to be present This also was impossible for the canceling of the parade in which the school oh'ldren were to tulso pint. Aviator Cochrane was unable to make hib Uights as planned as he was ma rooned in the mud at his landing place near Inavale. At 1:110 the Bed Cloud hand rendered several selections in front of the Or pheum theater, nt which place t lie pro gram was carried out, Prof, llolt.en presiding. The program was opened with the singing of America by the audience, followed by selections by the band and the High School quartette and sextette. Attorney L. U. BlacUlcdge delivered a very appropriate address, his subject being "Patriotism and our Debt of Gratitude to the Americau Soldiers". The speaker called attention to the meaning of the event that they were celebrating and also stated that the day would be honored throughout all time to come. He also mentioned our methods of warfare were more efficient und successful than those of Europe. He took issue with those who thought the U. S. soldiers should have fought all the way to Berlin, as many lives were saved by not doing so and con cluded by saying that the United Stat es needed military preparation to safe guard the future of tills country. The program was brought to a close by the singing of the Star Spangled Banner by all present, after which the band und Bed Cloud High School foot ball team marched to the local foot ball grounds whore the High School team defeated the Pick Up team of former players of the city. EDISON invented the phon ograph in 1877, Later he improved his original phonograph to a point where his business advisers said to him : " You now have the best phonograph in existence. Let's go ahead and market it." Mr. Edison shook his head and replied : v" I am not going to put out a new phonograph until it is so perfect that its reproduction of music cannot be detected from the original music." Thomas A. Edison spent three million dol lars in cold cash to develop an instrument which matched the human voice and all kinds of musi cal instruments so perfectly that the original could not be told from the reproduction or RE CREATION, as it is now called.
