The big value of your storage battery quick starts and longer life de pends largely upon the battery plates. Soft Plates provide plenty, cf "pep" and power while the battery is new, but quickly wear down and lose their strenfith, making a short-lived battery. Hard'Plates provide long life and staying ability, but the bat ery lacks the "pep" and power necessary for quick starts, good lights and ignition. Perfected Process Plates are tho only plates that combine the good fea tures of both. Prest-O-Lite Perfected Process Plates have a super-hard center or "backbone" yet the surface is porous and therefore super-sensitive to the electro-chemical action which creates electricity for starting, lighting and ignition. They give greater "pep," power nnd longer life to every Prest-O-Lite Battery. A stwtli of ivpndv. desolate, neglected roadside abruptly terminating at a lino fence and the ' adjoining stretch clean, neat and well kept, often causes a consider able difference in our conception, ng- riculturally of tho two farms as well as of the persons operating them. Some farmers evidently consider l.o roadside along their farms as distinctly separate from and wholly outside of their jurisdiction, and any time or labor expended in keeping it as so much gratuitously donated to the public. Every farmer should con sider the roadside along his farm as deserving as much of his attention as the farm itself. He should consider the road the "front way" to his farm and, instead of it receiving second ary attention, it should be one of the first places by which the appearance of the farm is improved. At first thought, to cut the weeds along the road while back in the corn field they arc growing rank, seems rather incongruous, but it also seems absurd to cut tho weeds in the corn field while those by tho roadside arc left to thrive and help to resced tho field again. If weeds arc not in liar-1 mony itlv our ideals of good farm-1 ing, why is it not good policy to di rect tho first efforts in tho way of their removal to the roadside, thus not only benefitting ourselves but all who travel the highway, as wo'l? A neat, clean roadside improves tho appef.inncc of the farm. Appear-! nnnn J.. County Agricultural Agent, HENRY R. FAUSCH. SOCIETY OF 353th The "Society of the 355th Infan try," an organization formed by the active members who remained with the regiment during its stay in the army of occupation, while stationed at Saarburg, Germany, has opened Headquarters in Lincoln, Nebraska, reparatory to opening the member ship campaign for men who be longed at one time or another but who left the regiment before they Had the opportunity of becoming a rp'ember of the permanent organiza tion. .' .Every man who served honorably aft any time with the 355th Infantry ilV eligible to membership and is in cited to get in touch with the head-ejuartei-s. More than a thousand members were enrolled at the first series of meetings in Germany af ter which work had to be delayed on .account of the movement home of the Eighty-ninth division. The Society is preparing now to publish for its members a complete roter of all men who were with the regiment at any time as .well as list of casualties and the reprinted history of the Division and regi ment as published in Germany. It is intended to hold the first convention this fall probably in Lincoln, Oma ha, or Kansas City, on or about No vember 11th, the exact place and date to be made public later, and it is hoped and expected that a large majority of the five thousand men, enrolled under the name of the 355th at one time or another will come there to renew acquaintances that cannot be kept alive without some such system. Earl M. Cline of Nebraska City, formerly Captain with the regiment was chosen firat president when the Society was formed in Germany, Charles W. Hill of Ravenna, mess sergeant with F Company was marie vice president and Carlisle L. Jones of Lincoln, Corporal of Headquar ters Company, was made secretary and treasurer, and to him all -applications for membership or informa tion may be addressed. Membership fee for the first year which includes the publications the society is pre paring, is a dollar with provision that the yearly dues may be any thing adopted at the convention un der a dollar a year. This is of particular interest to Nebraska men because the 35rith In fantry was tho largest single unit known as a Nebraska unit that reached active service. It suffered the heaviest casualties of any reg iment of the Division and was in the thick of things and known as tiie iMcorasKa infantry. AU mem bers from Ml states are included 111 the tociety nuct several hundred men :.nd officers trtm the olh"r Mates arc already enrolled, but it is hoped that for Nebraska the regiment may come to mean what favorite regiments have been to other states in previous wars. To this end it is especially desired that all Nebraska men once identified with the 35bth Infantry get in touch with tho per manent organization this summer. Men from Ked Cloud or in the neighborhood of Red Cloud who are already members of this society and who can give information concern ing its formation in Europj and the good it is hoped to do include: Randall Young, Guide Rock; Perry Lovcjoy, Inavale; B. C. Anderson, Red Cloud; Otho A. Ellison, Red Cloud; Harvey J. Ricker&on, Red Cloud. BAPTIST CHUIini NOTES Sunday School at 10 u m., prench ing at 11 a. m., and 3 11. m.
