Hedge spent Tuesday evening in tho city with his family. Mrs. Chae. Hill of Hastings spent the weekend hero with her mother, Mrs. Jennie Hassingcr and family. Mrs. Ed Dixon and little son went up to Hastings Wednesday to visit their daughter and sister, Miss Margaret. The obstructions have finally been overcome and work at the "Big Chief" oil well is again really under way. Dr. II. P. Hoxcy went up to Hast ings Saturday to spend tho day with his wife who is receiving treatment in a hospital at that place. Mr. and Mrs. J. T .Saladcn went up to Hastings Saturday at which place Mrs. Saladcn underwent an opera tion, at the Mary Lanning hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Tress Harwood have the sympathy of the community in the loss of their infant son, who was born Saturday and lived only a few hours. Mr. and Mrs. Will Bcardslee took their four months old son to Hast ings Friday where the little follow will receive medical treatment from a baby specialist. Fred Good, chairman of the United War Work Committee, was down from Cowlcs the last of the week, conferring with Prof. Whitehead and others on war work affairs. Mrs. Joe Gurncy and daughter of Inavalc were in the city between trains the last of, tho week wlvjle enroute to Hastings to visit their husband and father, who is in a hos pital at that place. ' Mrs. Mary Polnicky and son, Paul, returned home the last of the week from Lincoln where the latter has been receiving treatment from an eye specialist. Roy Hcrbcrgcr, foreman of the Ar gus, is back on the job after an ill ness of several days duration. J. F. Edwards, manager of the Farmer's Union Creamery has mov ed into the Dr. Cook residence. Chas. Richardson is substituting as brakeman on Nos. -1 and 11, dur ing the illness of Roy Cramer. R. E. Ring of Rain arrived in the city the last of the week to visit his sister, Mr. E. J. Pulsipher and fam ily. The stockholders of the Kansas Border Oil & Gas Co., will meet in annual session at tho Court House next Saturday afternoon. County Attorney Howard S. Foe wont up to Hastings the last of the week to attend the funeral of his uncle, I. N. Young. Trainmaster W. F. Pate of Mc Cook, traveling in his private car, was in the city on oflicial business the last of the week. Miss Jessie Kellogg, who is teach ing school at Lawrence, spent the weekend here with her father, Ed Kellogg. t Lorcn Blair loaded his car the last of the week and he and his family departed Sunday for St. Francis, Kansas, which place they intend to make their future home. The two Ducker girls, Winifred and Lottie, have recovered from tho prevailing epidemic and Bert Duck cr's pleasant presence is again in evidence at the court house. "Mr. and Mrs. Vail Fox are in the city visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sanford Fox. Vail, only a few days ago, received his honorable dis charge from Camp Funston. Deardorf left Wednes day for Lincoln on receipt of a mes sage stating the seventeen months old baby of her brother, Geo. Davis, of Guide Rock, was very low. County Highway Commissioner Geo. II. Ovcring, loft for Lincoln tho last of the week to attend a meet ing of the state engineers. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ovcrlccse re ceived a message the last of the week stating that their son, Geo., had ar rived in the United States from over seas. Mrs. A. J. Topham returned home Tuesday morning from a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Leonard of Inavalc. Mrs. Leonard accompanied her and spent the day hero. The Annual Webster County Sun day School Convention, to which all arc invited to attend or take part will bo held in tho M. E. church in this city, April 17th and 18th. Rev. V. M. Harper is attending the Baptist Layman's Convention at Hastings Thursday and Friday of this week. Rev. Nickerson, formerly of Guide Rock and Goo. Cordlc of Rivcrton, accompanied him. Word has been received from Everett Hpward, son of Mr. and Mrs. & M. Howard, formerly of this city but now residing at St. Francis, Kan sas, stating that tho young man is still in Franco and getting along fine. A German helmet sent to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stroup, by their son, Everett, who is at pres ent with Pershing's forces on the Rhine, was on display in the Grice & Grimes drug store window on Sat urday. Mrs. Alfred McCall and Robert McCall, of Red Cloud, were visitors on March 1st, at the big exhibit of Southern California products main tained free to the public in the Los Angeles Chamber of 'Commerce. They also attended the lectures and moving pictures that arc a part of the daily program. The exhibit is the largest of any in the country maintained by a commercial organ ization.
