It begins to look as though the man
who took unto himself a bride in or
der to dodge the draft is going -to
have pretty hard sledding as the dist
rict exemption board sitting at Om
aha handed down the decree that men
wholnnM'icd subsequent to April 1917
will receive no exemption. A mighty
lucky thing for some of tho brides,
as a man who shirks the duty lie owes
to his country in all probability will
be found wanting when tho honey
moon is over and tho realities of mar
led life present themselves.

Tho hyena, the scornion. tho skunk
and tho rattlesnake may bo classed as
the most undesirable of the inhabi
tants of the earth, but we liavo with
us another species that falls oven be
low this level tho person or persons
who set the poisioned bait for the un
suspecting canine. For some time
past these human viners have boon
poisioning dogs in this city and while
au oi tiicm may not have been of
much value to the master or tho ecn-
cral public, at any rate thoy arc tho
property of our citizens and their
propei ty rights should bo respected.
If the guilty parties could bo anmo-
hended thoy should be treated to a
coat of the same material that is
being poured over tho brick-3 on the
street and then run out of town at
the point of a shot gun. Inflicting
torture on a dumb brute is one thing
that should not bo tolerated in anv
civilized community. The latest
victim of these diseased brains (if
they have any) was a beautiful white
dog owned by J. II. Bailey, one that
was never known to molest any one,
ever obedient to his master's wishes,
the pet and companion of the enbire
family.
