On last Wednesday nfternoon, Mrc.
Anna M. Jackson, ono of tho old sett
lers of this county, passed away after
mi illness of n few hours duration at
the home of her son, A. C. Jackson,
who resides nine miles northeast of
Red Cloud. She was born iu Ohio,
January 8, 1837, and was aged 80 years,
I months nnd 8 days Three sons nnd
one daughter arc left to mourn her
demise. The funeral scrvicos were
held Sunday with Rev.,, Bounds, of
Cowles, lu charge after which inter
ment'wns made in tho Pleasant Hill
cemetery.
A surprlso was given on Thursday
evening, May 18, at Hie home of Mr
and Mrs. II. C. Fit., in honor of Miss
Anna Brommer, who has just finished
her second year of teaching in district
twonty-six. The evening was spent in
playing games and jokes, after which
dainty refreshments worn served con
sisting of ice crenin nnd cake. Those
