New Officials in Office Today
The hour of twelve, midnight, Sun
ilny marked tho close of the old and
tho beginning of the new calendar
year
Today marked the closing of the old
and the beginning of the now county
olllciul's year. On this date those who
were victorious in the buttle of tho
billots will with nil legal solemnity as
sume the duties of their respective, of
Hues, Webster county's administration
building was the soond of much uotiv-
Ity, as there we witnessed tho trium
phant smile of the victorious candi
dates entering into tho duties of their
new olllces, mingled with just n little
sorrow and regret of those who hud
run tho race and failed to reach tho
goal.
Wo have no words of reproach for
those retiring from olllce. They have
served the people to tho best of their
ability, and wo fool that the now of
ficials have both tho ability and inten
tions of serving the people, who by
their voto placed them iu those re
sponsible positions, In a manner that
will be satisfactory to all.
Among the many now faces that will
be seen at tho Court House will bo that
of Frank Perry, county clorlc. Ho is
known to tho majority of tho people
of this county and is a man of high
character and excellent business nbllity
having already displayed tho same in
the selection of his deputy, Mr. Bert
Duckcr, a man capablo of rendering
valued service to his superior and tho
people With these two business men
in charge of tho affairs of the County
Clerk's olllco tho people are assured of
nn exacting account of tho business
transacted in this department.
Mr. Frank Huffer, assisted by Mr. P.
II. Boner will see that every citizen's
personal and property lights aro re
spected. While neither of these gen
tlemen have, to our personal know
lodge, woo nny medals for unusual
valor, it is safe to predict that any
violators of tho law whoso presence is
desired at the tribunal of justice will
bo found there at the specified time.
As yet Frank has not announced his
menu for his guests at the county
boarding houso but wo venture to say
it will consist of three squares of Web
ster county's products seasoned with a
goodly amount of justico and liuniano
treatment.
Rev. O. W. Hummel will inform us
just what amount we will be compelled
to ontributo to the county treasur
er, in the way of real ostnto and per
sonal property tuxes. Wo fool confi
dent that a man so religiously iucllnod
will soo that each and every property
owner will pay his just share, no more
or no less If there bo any "tax dod
gers" in the community we fear that
his conscionco will not permit him to
make a false statement to one who has
served as n minister of tho gospel. No
doubt Judge Hanney will meet with n
little competition during the iiesjssoi'j
olllce days as many young people who
have been struck by cupids dart would
prefer tho blessing of a minister of the
gospel to a ceremony of a judge.
The Misses Kdlth L. McKolghnn,
ulerk of the district court, and
Gertrude L. Coon, county superinten
dent, Mr Frank J. Munday, county
attorney, and Mr. C. I). Uobinson,
county treasurer will succeed themsel
ves. They have already demonstrated
their ability to take charge of thoir
respective olllces and the people may
rost assured that thev will continuo to
give them etllcient service.
Messrs. Jus. Hubatka, John Kniggo
and Win. Thomas are the nowly elect
ed county I'oiutiiij.sioueiH and will
carry out the duties of this olllce with
out fear or favor.

future wo will have right hero in our
city one business structure that will

merchandise haidwarb, harness and
tiiiulng, plumbing, heating and elec
trical supplies.
Mr. (J. W. Trine informs u- that he
expects to bo located and ready for
business In tho building formerly oc
cupied by K. 1 Woosnor A: Co., Satur
day, Jmiuury G'th, as just as soon us
Mr. Weesnor lias his goods transferred
to his new quaiters, lu tho Miner
building, he will begin to move his
goods into tho former'b location. II
will be no trilling mutter to move tills
largo stock of hardware, but George
says that he has a corps of able assist
ants all lined up waiting for tho call
to duty, and if he exhibits tho same
amount of skill and good judgement
iu overseorlng this work us lie has in
other business mutters it isu safe bet
that tho goods will be on tho shelves
on time. Itoing of a kind-hearted mi
turo, tieorgc tins decided to share his
now domicile with his fellow men.
Mr. Wert Stevens, who, for the past
live yours has been iu ohurgo of the
plumbing, heating, tinning and elec
trical work at Morhurt;Hros store has
resigned his position with this firm,
purchased tho equipment und sunnlies
of lid Uunson's shop, and will bo ut
liomo to lits friends, after Juuuarv (!.
in this same building. Ills man v vears
of employment with Morhart liros., as
well as several years of experience be
fore entering their employ has ulveri
him a tlioro knowledge of this lino of
business and has also placed him in a
position to know the wants of tho
people or tins viciulty in this liue of
work. He is a younir man of Food
habits, pleasant disposition and an iu
dustrlous nature and wo feel coulideut
that nil who give him an initial order
will become regular patrons of his
shop. The Chief and his many friends
wish inrn success in his business vent
uro. Mr. J. O. llutler tho eillcient muni-
pulator of the nwl and wox-ond will
open a shop in this building nud will
satisfactorily repair all harness attire.
and If it has passed the repair stuire
will gladly dress your team in a bran
new set of hai ness, us lie is not only
going to do u general repair business
b it will also handle a line of harness
and horse goods, lie has heretofore
exhibited his skill iu this line of work,
lu the city, and tho people know he
can deliM'r the goods. Hole's hoping
fortune smiles on him.
