views Mates that the higher prices of
paper stock and the ditllculty in ob

the demand for paper has been In
creasing while at the same time, the
supplies used In its manufacture have
been decreased by war conditions.
The chemicals used in bleaching pa
per, produced by sulphuric acid and
alum, are being devoured by the man
ufacture of explosive-., the importa
tions of jute have fslleu olf, an em
bargo has been placed on wood pulp
from Sweden and Norway and some
time' ago Canada stopped access to her
vast riHouiccs. Everything going in
to the manufacture of a newspaper

Death of Pioneer.
On Sunday, A pi 11 150th, Moses King,
one of the old pioneer leslilents of
near (.Initio Rock, passed away at his
home on the farm located one mile
north and one ndle oast of that place,

held at the home on Tuesday morn

wife, one son and two daughters are
left to mourn his death.

Observes Grant's Birthday
Last Thursday afternoon, the mem
bers of the it. A. R. and the Woman's
Relief Corps, met with the High School
to do honor to the memory of U. S.
Ciant. The occasion being the anni
versary of ("rant's birthday. The pro
gram consisted of singing of patriotic
songs by the school; the reading of
Grant's last order to the army, by Miss
Elizabeth Overman; and an address by
Hon. dames Gilliam. The speaker
paid a deserved tribute to America's
greatest general and one of the grejit
est commanders of all time. He re
called the fact that it was just 32 years!
ago that he gave the address here at
the time of ("rant's funeral. The ser
vices were impressive and enjoyed by,
all. :
High Class Entertainment
The Wesselman Stock Co. showed to,
packed houses at theOrpheum Theatre
thtee nights of this week. '
The bill for Monday night was
"Rouglit and Paid For,"' a strong'
drama, well playedby high class actois.
"Tlio Rustic Bride" a four act drama,
played Tuesday night was received by
a luge and appreciative audience.
On Wednesday night the patrons of
the Orpheum were given a treat in the
way of high class vuudevillo and mo
tion pictures and was indeed a big
show for little money.
On Saturday night the same Stock
Co., will present to the people of this
vicinity one of the strongest dramas
playing in stock today, "The Girljand
The Shepherd", with high class spec
ialties between each and every act.
Manager Cassll is to be compliment
ed upon Ids success in securing such h
high class troupe of players and de
serves the patronage of the theatre go
ing public. He informs us that he has
