Congressman Shalle'riuergerhas in
troduced a bill in the United States
Uofse of Representatives providing
for farm loans at a low rate of interest.
The bill contemplates using the funds
in the postal savings bank and loaned
directly to the farmer. The bill has
many commendable features and is
much better than many of the wild
cat schemes advocated by Tom, Dick
and Harry. The question of farm
loans is up for settlement and it will
never be settled until it is settled
right. Aiding the poor men to get a
start and extending capital to the rich
men are two different tilings. Con
gressman Shallenbeiger has evidently
given this question a groat deal of
consideration and he is well able to
present nn intelligent bill on this sub
ject having had extensive experience
as h farmer and banker. The bill is
receiving endorsement (urn all quarters.

"Kate" Kessler Goes Wrong
Sheriff Hedge taken Charley Kesslei
Into custody Saturday afternoon after
receiving word from the authorities at
Coucordia, Kansas, stating that ho
was wanted at that place to answer to
a charge of robbery, It is alleged
that Kessler, iu company with a man
from Concordia, had spent several days
in a drunken carousal at Superior, and
at this time the stranger's roll was
saved from being purloined by Kessler
by the timely action of a big hearted
hotel keeper, who put the victim to
bed, keeping his money for him. After
sleeping off the effects of the liquor,
the man was given back his roll and
left for Concordia. Kessler followed
and again the boo.se flowed freely.
When the stranger had consumed suf
ficient to be completely under Its in
fluence, Kessler relieved him' of somo
838, after which he takon tho train for
this city, whero he has made his home
off and on for years. He arrived here
Frldoy evening nnd when taken into
custody Saturday afternoon was clean
having spent the proceeds.
