Lincoln Letter
"Organized Agriculture" has filled
Lincoln to overflowing with lumber
men, tax assessors, apple growers,
stockmen, historians, dairymen, house
keepers, politicians and onlookers, all
of whom seemed to ileprlvemueh bene
fit from the various meetings, January
17 to 111.
Upon application of Attorney Uener-i
al Willis E. Reed, the supremo court
of Nebraska has granted a temporary
Injunction restraining ilvo railroads
from violating the two-cent fare law
and tlio mileage book law. Hearing is
set for February 7th ou motion to
make the injunction perpetual. This
order covers all railroads in Nebraska,
except tho Missouri Pacific and Rock
Island which had previously commenc
ed suits lu federal court to restrain
the state officers from enforcing the
rato law. Tho Missouri Pacific is now
charging 2.1 cents per mile fare.

A most successful meeting' of the
cointy assessors of Nebraska was held
In the senate cluimbcr at Lincoln Wed
nesday and Thursday of last week and
closed by re-electing I). L.Sylvester of
Uutler president and .1. II. Dean of
llulfalo Secretary. The legislative
committee chosen comprises T. P. Cos
tello of Hall, J. R. C. Miller of Lan
caster and Fred Kluck of Colfax.
Secretary 0. E. Rernccker of the state
board of assessment spent much of the
time explaining nuzzling questions
that arise lu tho assessment of proper
ty. Ho said the state board expects
counties to assess real property tills
spring at Its true value. The manner
in which a basis is to be found was ex
plained. Asu"sors aro to assess real
estate at 7,") percent of the sales value,
only b'ona lido sales to be included.
