Right Solution of
Cash or Credit
Hero th n concrete example- of what
wo think has near the rljjht solution
of the question, "Is cash or a oiedlt
system picfeiiible and how shall u
store got tho best of the two systems?"
as it is possible to find in working
order in a store of tliN section.
That is a (pio-thn that has boon
discussed both oially and in various
publications until It would scorn that
every povslblo phase of tin, (situation
hud been gone over and ctliically eon
sldciod. Always in those discussions Tiado
Exhibit lias taken the stand that the
short time, Into est bating otedit basis
was by far tile best for the retailer of
this part of the country, especially
thoe having u large per coinage ot

In tho pfati dial they have ndopti'd.
In ihcir stoio paper, Fair Clpit (and
hole is whom a store paper comes in
with great elllcieiicy) thoy have dis
cussed tills question with their own
trade, with tho result that they have
decided ou u plan, which with ample,
explanation, was published in th last
Issue of their paper as follows:
OtMl PLAN
Every aiticlo 1 marked with the
cash price and It is understood that,
you will pay cash for sumo. If, how
over, you wish time for payment, then
that customer will go to the ollkc and
procure either n coupon book or trade
checks. When jou get those- coupons
or trade checks you will sign u note
di awing interest at tho rate of ton per
cent per annum. In case this note is
paid lu thirty days no inteio-t is
charged, but hi case the note is not
paid in that time It will hour Interest
from date of signing.
A charge account under the plan
will make your goods cost you less
money than over before. Ilosidos that
tho charged customer is charged exact
ly what It costs us to maintain his ac
count ami ho gets his merchandise for
less money. Tho cash customer will
make a big saving under this now plan
and will not have to p ty an extra mar
gin ou merchtiudisu in older that
others may cairy ohaigo accounts.
We lmvo talked this plan over with
many of our customers. The other
day twOim-n told ns they bought their
merchandise on time because it did
not cost them any more to do so, ami
they had tho uso of their money dur
ing that time. Thoy sithl they woio
now going (o pay cash for alt lho
bought, and 1 i case thoy needed a
little time fur payment, thoy would bo
glad to ,iay what interest was neces
hiu v. Another man told us that this
was the fullest deal he has over had
since he came to northwest Nebuisku.
Another man told us that ho oidered
much mcichamlibc fioin the mailorder
houses la-cause ho did not fool like
paying for the privilege enjoyed by the
charge ctis'oineis.
Tills was followed by more along the
same Hue, calling special attention to
the display ads carried in the same
edition and lu which some of the new
pi ices were quoted.
If any retailer can devise a better,
more equitable system of handling tho

BETTY GETS A CHANCE.
Rid Cross 8eals Halped Her to Gat
Well.
Sho was rcnl pretty nnd so full of
fun that tho dimples were nlwnya
nhowltig In her round, red cheeks. Her
eyes were big nnd brown, and her nut
colored lmlr curled naturally In little
rlnglots over her forehond nnd ears.
Sho was Jist efghtoeii when wo first
mot her and bo neut nnd attmctlvo
that one would think she belonged to
tho well to do class of working people,
hut when wo followed her to her home
ono day wo confronted startling facts.
The red In her checks was tho flush
of unnaturul inward fever, tho high
spirits were a pitiful anttdoto to piti
less conditions, nnd tho big brown eyes
enw only squnlor when thoy wero not
flxed upon a typewriting machlno or
closed persistently to any view but nn
Imaglnnry bright one.
Tho room wo entered was a general
living space, used also ns an eating,
cooking and sleeping apartment There
was but ono bed, and Betty had to
Bleefr in it with her mother, who was
too weak to sit up. An open cuspidor
sat where It would bo conveniently
near tho bed, which placed It by tho
stove, where their food was cooked.
The mother, who was suffering In an
advanced stage of tuberculosis, did not
like cold air, and her querulous de
mands caused Betty to keep the door
and windows closed.
"Well," sakl cheerful Betty, with a
laugh, "that Isn't o bad aa not baring
any windows or doors to close, la It?
Things might be worse." ,
"Infinitely worse," said the Wise
One, "Yon might even take a notion
to stuff the windows and doors with
rags to cut ont what oxygen comes In
through the cracks."
Red Cross Christmas Seals, with
their cheery message of hope, gave
Betty a chance to get well after her
mother died. Is it worth while to save
the Bettys?
