The Chamber of Commerce should
take action in regard to the public
drinking fountain. The one that stands
on the four, corners should either be
fixed so that it can, be used or else it
should be removed and others sup
plied to take its place. As it is, it is
usoless and sneaks of what might have
been in days gone by.

making a red-hot campaign for tho
legislature in Franklin county. Per-
soimlly oither of these gentlemen
would make nn Ideal state olllcor, be
cause both are well equipped for the
position owing to their activity in
public uu'oirs, but on account of politi
cal tendencies Col. Barknr 1ms nm-

The Democratic stat' convention was
one of tho most harmonious ever hold
in tho btnte, notwithstanding tho
frantic efforts of our opponents. It
was a grent disappointment to those
who would have been pleased to see a
wldo division among the workers. The
Chief was much pleased that Thomp
son was made, chairman. Ho ruled
fairly and to his discretion wus due
the credit for much of the harmony
that prevailed. The Democrats now
present a united organization aud
there Is no question about a sweeping
victory next November.
Tho work of nn olllolal should bo
judged by results, not by the amount
of nolso coming from his olllco. Judged
by what ho has done, Governor Moore
head Is desorving of recognlon at the
hands of the voters of this state. With
out nny bluster or headline advertise
ment he has quietly but persistently
gone about his duties and has pro
duced results that are very gratifying,
During his administration, among
"ther good measures the following
laws were passed and placed Into op-
eratlon: Voting by mail law. mire Hu-
seed oil law, stnudar J of weights and
measures law, cold storage food law
and county telephone law. To our
way of thinking the single biggest
thing Governor Moorehead has done
is tho reformation of the state reform
atory. This Institution is no longer a "
disgrace to tho state The unlorttiu
ates now in the state penitentiary are
treated as though they W(fru lllumm
beings and tlU! infamous custom of
smuggling drugs detrimental to tho
lives and morals of the inmates has
been abolished. For this one thing
alone the Governor should bo returned
to olllco.
Wasteful Practice

of burning straw stacks is being vigor

little difference will bo found. If tho
disking, however, does not kill all tl e
weeds the dlfforenoe will be greater
depending upon tho amount of water
used by the weeds. Where heavy
rains come during the test, theadran
age of plowing over disk ug will be
greater. The plowing puts the soil in '
