Tliu StiUo Uoard of Arlcultiiiu Iirh boon looking up some of tlio extraordi nary crop yle'tdH of 1012 ami finds re markable crops in nmny parts of thu state: T. N. Feltz of Furnas County raised the banner crop of oats in west ern Nebraska bo far as heard from, lib yield being 01 bushels and '21 pound per acre from fl.73 measured acres Glen Wilson of Washington County harvested an average of 55 bushels of oats from a field of eight measured acres. Alex Busohow of Webster County produced Its bushels of Turkey Red winter wheat per acre from a field of about ten acres with other larger field which came near the same high mark. Mr. Buschow keeps alfalfa in his rota tlonjand bis biggest yield af wheat followed alfalfa. What is probably a record yteld of wheat for Nebraska in recent years comes from Merrick County, where Will MoCullough threshed '143 bushels from two aores reserved for a test; this is at the rate of seventy-three and one half bushels per acre. Yields of thir ty-five to forty bushels of wheat per acre arc so common as to no longer excite comment. The fitness of Ne braska soil for the growing of winter wheat of good quality is shown by the fact that the average yield for ten years Is twenty-five per oent greater than that of Kansas, whose big wheat crops have been given nation aide publicity. The sixteen boys winning prises Id the annual corn growing contest of the State Board of Agriculture aver aged eighty-four bushels per acre. These examples, taken from widely separated portions of the state, indi cate the possibilities of Nebraska soil under skillful management. HUH Farm Prosperity la The Apple Belt. Much comment has been given to Ne braska's big apple crop of 1012. Tbe six counties of Butler, Gage, Johnson, Nemaha, Otoe and Richardson pro duced 3,832,690 bushels of apples, ac cording to the figures returned by the llurcau of Industrial Statistics; this ia equivalent to 0,005 carloads of apples, the bulk of which went to eastern markets. One grower sent two car loads direot to London, England, at a fancy price. These same six counties produced grain, hay and potato crops tb the amount of S10,488,381 in 1012; this is equivalent to one-third of the values of the same crops for tbe entire state of Washington; it is equal to one half of the values of these crops for either Oregon or Idaho and one-fourth of the value of these crops for the big state of California. These same coun tain swine which total one half as mauy head as either Idaho, Washing ton or Oregon and nearly one-sixth aa many as California.
