Your Town.
More towns dio for want of conn
deuce on tho pnrt of business men
and lack of public spirit than any
other cause. When a man in search
of a home or a business location goes
into a town and finds everything brim
full of hopo and enthusiasm of the
prospects of tho place, and all earn
estly at work to build it up, he soon
becomes imbued with tho same spirit,
and as a result he drives down stakes
and goes to work with tho samo In
terest. When, however ho goes to a
town where ovory one expresses doubt
and apprehension for tho futuro pros
perity of tho place, moping about and
indulging in mournful complaints lie
naturally feels that It Is no place for
him, and lie at once shakes the dust
oft' his feet while ho pulls out with all
possible speed for some other place
Consequently try and make a llvo,
enterprising town out of the town in
which you live. When you are work
ing fur 'or saying n good thing for
your town you aro accomplishing all
the inoro for yourself.
How to Make Mischief.
Keep your ejes on your neighbors.
Take care of lliein. I Jo not lot them
stir without watching. They niu do
something wioiig if you do. To be
sure you never knew them to do any
thing bad, but it may bo on your ac
count they have not. Perhaps if it
had not been for yoiir kind care they
might have disgraced themselves a
long time ago. Therefore do not relax
any effort to keep thorn where they
ought to be. Never mind your own
business that will takn euro of itself.
There is a man passing along he Is
looking ovor tho fence bo suspicious
of htm; perhaps he contemplates steal
ing,,somo of these dark nights; there
is no knowing what queer fancies ho
may have got into his head.
If you find any symptoms of any one
passing out of the path of duty, tell
every one else what you see, and be
particular and see a great many. It
is a good way to circulate such things,
it may' not benefit yourself or any one
else particularly. Do keep somothiug
going silence is a dreadful thing;
though it is said there was silence in
heaven for the space of half an hour,
do not let such a thing occur on earth;
it would be too much for tills mun
dano sphere.
If, after all your watchful care you
cannot see that they have done any
thing bad, throw out hints that thoy
are no better than they should be
that you should not wonderjf the peo
plo found out what thoy wore after a
while, then they may not carry their
heads so high. Keep it going, and
some one may take the hint and bogin
and help it along after a while then
thero will bo music, and everything
will work like a charm.
Follow the above directions and you
will bo pretty sure to make plenty of
mischief.
