Spauoglo at his home on Fourth ave nue last Monday afternoon was a great shock to the people of this city. A short time iio ho was stricken with Exhaustion Heart Failure aud tho ho made u gallant fight for life he could not overcome the inroads of the dis ease ami passed quietly away into the great beyond. Mr. Spanogle was born in Pennsyl vania July 11, 1K31 aud cast his lot with Webster County, Nebraska early in tho seventies. He took an active part in civic alfulrs and in 1U92 was elected mayor of this city. This office he filled with credit. His administration was one of the host in tho history of tho city. Ho early engaged in the real estate business and has sold large amounts of Nebraska ami Kansas land. His i-iforls contributed largely in the de velopment of this country. Having iullueiicial acquaintance back in the east he interested llu-in in the new country and induced them to inest tlieir sin plus here to the great benefit of this community. Asa man, .Mr. Sp.tuogle was kind and considerate. lie was ever mild and agreeable yet firm aud unyielding when it came to matters which in volved his conviction. Ilo was an act ive member of the Methodist chinch for many years lu the death of I). It. Spanogle this community loses an energetic public spirited citizen. Free Land Grants Yes, a few more elegant Free Land Grants can still bo had in Mexico, where many Americans arc now lo cating. You do not even have to go to Mexico, but arc required to have five acres of fruit trees planted with in five years. For information print ed in English regarding Mexican homesteads, address The Janthn Plantation Company, Block 030, Pittsburgh, Pa. You can have your trees planted and your land worked on shares, so as to bring you a thou sand dollars a year. The health con ditions are perfect and the climate grand. It is never hot, never cold. J. W. Robertson of Red Cloud, Neb., one of tho well-to-do farmers and stockmen of Webster county, thinks the wheat in that community will not make any more than a half crop this season. A good deal of tho land lias already been plowed up and prepared for corn, ho says: "We still have a few cattle in the feed lots," suid Mr. Robertson, "but they are being mar keted now protty fast. That is ono of tho great feeding districts of the state. We never go back entirely on cattle seeding, aud fed out a good many this spring. Itut farmers have been more interested iu hogs than anything else. Farmers havo simply been selling hogs, and paying no attoution to rais ing them, until we are about out of them. Just as long as hog prices hold up to this high point, no nttompt will bo made to brood up and increase the hog supply, but should the price go down thou wo would probably bo bett er enabled to give them attention aud increaso the stock. Farmers have been making big monoy on hogs, to be sure, in spite of the high priced corn. We are looking after tho spring pig crop witli considerable intorcst, however and with a smaller number of brood sows wo will glvo thctn spec ial attention. In the moantimo tho selling goes on, and whenovor a shout reaches 150 lbs. in weight, it is on tho market. Formorly we held back that sized hogs and mado them heavy be fore marketing them. Dy hustling them off at( this light weight the real pork product is not as largo as it would be of course wero the. same number of heavy hogs marketed. The alfalfa is looking well, und in a few duys vvcoxpoct u beglu plautlngcorn. The only trouble Is that the surface of the ground Is very dry, and uccdb a good rain to put it In Hhupe."
