shall be elected by direct vote of the people.

The Democratic Platform provides for ascertaining the actual value of all the Inter
State Railroads as a basis for fixing rates just alike to the people and to the railroads.
This plank was defeated in the Republican National Convention by a vote of 91 7 to 63.
The Democratic Platform demands the publication of all campaign contributions be
fore election and all disbursements after election, so that the people may know before
election whether the Corporations and Trusts are using undue influence in the election
of President.
This plank was voted down in the Republican National Convetion by a vote of 880 to 94.
Shall we tax large incomes so that wealth shall bear its just proportion of national
taxation?
The Democratic Platform says YES. The Republican Platform is silent.
The Government demands security for every dollar it deposits in national banks.
Shall the bank deposits of the people also be secured against loss by bank failures?
The Democratic Platform says YES. The Republican Platform is silent and the Republican Candidate for
President denounces such security to the people.
A decade ago Congress appropriated One Billion dollars for expenditures. The pres
ent Congress appropriated quite Two Billions. Shall this alarming extravagance con
tinue? The Democratic Platform says NO. The Republican Platform is, of course, silent.
The Democratic Platform demands that the Tariff' shall be REFORMED DOWN
WARD. The Republican Platform says the Tariff shall be REVISED upward if nec
essary to guarantee "reasonable profits" to the Trusts.
