7tfr Wtbsttr County Argus. E. U. Overman, who
announces himself in this Issue as a candidate for the
nomination as district judge at the hands of the repub
licans at the primary election to be held September
3d, wa3 born in Hancock county, Illinois, In 1862. He
attended Heddlng college, at Abingdon, earning, by
hard labor, the means to secure his education. He
began the practice of law at Oquawka, and was soon
elected county attorney In Henderson county, in which
capacity he served the state of Illinois for six years.
He removed to Webster county In 1898, and was
elected county attorney In 1900, and re-elected by an
increased majority In 1902. Mr. Overman Is a gentle
man of commanding presence, popular manners, win
ning address, and he stands In front rank in his profes
sion here. He will doubtless receive the undivided
support of the republicans of this county for the nom
ination, and would assuredly command a large Inde
pendent vote at the election.
Commercial Advertiser, Red Cloud, Webster tounty.
In another place In today's Commercial Advertiser
we have the pleasure of publishing the announcement
card of Elmer U. Overman of this city, who therein
announces himself to the public as a candidate for
judge of the district court for the Tenth Judicial dls
, trlct, comprising Adams, Webster, Franklin, Harlan,
tt Phelps and Kearney counties. He has practiced law
for more than seventeen years, and his practice, while
extensive in this locality, has also been extensive In
and out of the state. He has been very successful in
his business career, He has also filled the office of
county attorney In this state and in Illinois, and Is in
every way eminently qualified to hold the Important
position. He has not been mixed up with railroads
and corporations, and upon the whole, Is a clean, able
lawyer, such a one as is needed upon the bench, a man
who will be fair and impartial in his rulings, If nom
inated and elected. We believe the people want that
kind of a man, and in Mr. Overman they would find
J that kind. We hope to see him nominated and elected.
The Red Cloud Chief, Webster county. The Chief
is pleased to announce in this Issue to the voters of the
Tenth judicial district of Nebraska that E. U. Over
man of Red Cloud will be a candidate for district judge.
The Chief can heartily commend Mr. Overman to the
voters of the district for their favorable action at the
primaries in September, knowing as we do his worthi
ness and qualifications. For seventeen years he has
been an able and honorable practitioner enjoying the
full confidence of his clients and an extensive practice
such as few lawyers enjoy in this part of the state.
Never depending for success on what is called by
lawyers, "sharp practice," but being well learned and
possessing a fine legal mind, he has demonstrated that
he possesses the analytical and judicial mind required
by a man to fit him for the high position of district
judge. His splendid record as county attorney of this
county for two terms, during which time hs success
fully conducted some of the most important civil and
criminal cases the county has ever had, brought the
people of this county to regard him as a lawyer of
great skill and ability. He stands In this county above
suspicion as a gentleman of highest character. He Is
absolutely free from corporation Influence. No man
or set of men or corporation of any kind on earth has
any strings on him.
The Red Cloud Xation, Webster county (fusion).
Attorney E. U, Overman of this city Is a candidate for
the nomination for district Judge before the republican
voters In September. It Is Webster county's turn at
the bench, and the Nation would be pleased to see a
Webster county man get the office, even though he be
a republican. Mr. Overman made Webster county a
good county attorney for four years, and, no doubt,
would fill the office of district Judge of this Tenth Ju
dicial district with credit to himself and the district.
If the Nation were a republican It would be pleased to
support him. The only fault we can find with him Is
his political views. The republicans can do no better
than nominate him.
The Guide Rock Signal, Webster county (ind.).E.
U. Overman, a talented Webster county attorney, as
pires to the office of Judge of the Tenth judicial dis
trict. Ho announces his candidacy elsewhere In this
paper. He Is the first aspiring candidate of either
party to recognize the Signal as a profitable advertis
ing medium.
The Bladen Enterprise, Webster county (hid.). VJt

The Blue Hill Leader, Webster county (ind.).E.
U. Overman of Red Cloud announces his candidacy
for the nomination to the office of Judge of this Judicial
district on the republican ticket In this Issue. Mr.
Overman was here last week and also In Franklin
county looking over the political field preparatory to
making his announcement for the nomination to that
office, and he believes his chances for securing the
nomination are very good. Mr. Overman has prac
tlced at the bar for sixteen years, spending ten years
of that time In Red Cloud, and Is accounted a first
class lawyer.
The Wilcox Banner, Franklin county. Mr. E. U.
Overman of Red Cloud, Nebraska, was here Wednes

some little distinction as a criminal lawyer. He prac
ticed law seven years in Illinois before coming here,
so has had the experience necessary to make him Ju
dicial timber. He is a man of good appearance and
made a very favorable Impression on those he met
while here,

Candidate for District Judge.
The Red Cloud Chief, mister county. Elsewhere
in this issue Mr. John M. Chaff in has an article set
ting forth the quallflcatl) is requisite for a district
Judge. We can heartily r: :ommend the article to our
readers, believing as we ( o that Webster county's
candidate, Mr. E.U.Overnan, fulfils the requirements
as set forth In Mr. Chafflr's article, and a few others
he does not mention, amcrg them a keen perception
of the points In a case at aw and the brain to give an
accurate summary of the case.
Campbell Citizen, Fraiklin county (hid.). Else
where we publish this wee! the announcement of E.
U. Overman of Red Cloud is a candidate for district
Judge on the republican tic et. Mr. Overman Is one
of the older members of th Webster county bar, is a
man of exceptionally clen personal habits, a good
lawyer, a republican, and foes not ride on a Burling
ton pass, This makes hlnj a strong candidate In all
sections of the district.
The Ilildreth Telescopi Franklin county. E. U.
Overman of Red Cloud, Vebster county, was In town
yesterday In the Interests f his candidacy lor the re
publican nomination for Jldge of the Tenth Judicial
district, and his announcinent may be found else
where In this Issue. Mr. verman Is a very pleasant
gentleman, an able lawye, having practiced In this
district for the past seven sen years. That he Is pop
ular at home is attested I by the fact that he was
elected and re-elected c unty attorney of Webster
county on the republlcanllcket In the palmy days of
the populist party when tleir majority was anywhere
from three hundred to fl hundred. Mr. Overman
has many friends in Frajklln county who would be
pleased to see him landfhe prize If our own candidate,
Mr. W. C. Dorsey, wh if certainly entitled to our
first consideration, Is unable to do so.
The Upland Fugle, Franklin coiintv. The Eagle
office received a call the other day from Mr. E. U.
Overman of Red Cloud. TI1I3 gentleman needs no
introduction to the people of this part of Nebraska. He
came to Upland to announce himself as a candidate
for the office of district Judge, and with his many years
of active and successful legal practice he would be well
fitted for that place. He has been at Red Cloud for
the past ten years, and before that had a large prac
tice for seven years In Illinois. He has been county
attorney for two terms, and made a state reputation
by prosecuting the celebrated Barker case.
Franklin County Tribune. E. U. Overman of Red
Cloud was In the city last week for a short time. He
seems to be a very capable man and one who could
well carry the dignity of the office to which he aspires,
that of district Judge. Mr. Overman has lived in Red
Cloud for a good many years, and has a goodly num
ber of friends In Franklin county. Should he succeed
over his competitors at the primaries, the opposing
candidate will have difficulty in overcoming Mr. Over
4 man's popularity.
The Independent Herald, iicrtrand, Phelps county.
Mr. E. U. Overman of Red Cloud, whose announce
ment appears this week, Is a stranger in this part of
the district, but he comes with highest recommenda
tions from the people and newspapers of his home
town and county. He has practiced law for seventeen
years and built up a successful practice. He was pros
ecuting attorney of Webster county for four years.
He stands high morally and In personal worth, and
the claim Is made for him that he Is entirely free from
corporation taint or Influence. Mr. Overman was In
Bertrand Wednesday and favorably impressed those
who met him as a worthy aspirant for district Judge,
Campbell Citizen, l-ranklin County: E. U. Over
man of Red Cloud was here Frldav looklnp after his
candidacy for district Judge, and Incidentally making
101 ntmsell bctii friends and votes. Mr. Overman
has resided in Red Cloud many years so many, In
fact, that the be3t and the worst of him cannot fall to
be an open page to his neighbors, from whom, It Is
known, nothing of moment can bo long hidden. At
home, Mr. Oveiman's following Is unanimous, loyal,
and enthusiastic, nnd these facts speak In his favor
more eloquently than any other argument that could
be brought to boar. This local popularity Is well
illusttated by a glance at the official abstract of the
vote of Webster county for tho yeais 1900 and 1902,
on both of which occasions ho was a candidate for
tho office of county attorney. In 1900 he was the
only republican carrying the county, which he did by
170 voles plurality, the balance of the ticket being
defeated 33 to MB. In 1902 Mr. Overman again
topped the ticket, Ills plurality being 297, while the
balance of his running mates averaged barely 150.
This lj a showing of which any man ha3 a license to
feel proud, and one which should havo a good bit of
influence in the present race especially In localities
wheic the merits of the several candidates are Judged
laigely by Itcaisay evidence. One thing Is certain:
no icpubllcan candidate for Judicial honors this fall
has Mr. Overman surpassed In the undivided loyalty
of his home following.
The Franklin Sentinel, Franklin county. E. U.
Overman, an attorney fiom Red Cloud, was In the city
Friday for the purpose of lincitlng his caid In the Sen
tinel a-, a candidate for district Judge and further to
personally canvass our voters In his behalf. Mr. Over
man has practiced law for seventeen ycar3, has filled
the offlco of county attorney In Illinois nnd also In his
own, Webster, county, this state. He Impressed us as
a gentleman of high chai actor. Franklin county,
however, has a candidate of her own In tho person of
W. C. Doiscy, who, wo think, will command the ma
jor strength of tho party here, though we doubt not It
would go loyally to our Webster county brother were
he the sole valley aspirant.
The Ragan Journal, Hat Ian county. E. U. Over
man of Red Cloud1 was In thlstclty Wednesday visiting
old filcndi. Mr. Overman Is running for the offlco of
district Judge In this, tho Tenth district, and, regard
less of politics, we think he would bo a good man for
the office, owing to the fact that he Is a strictly moral
man and free from corporation influence, and his rec
ord In past and picsent life speaks for Itself, he having
graduated from Heddlng college and practiced seven
years In Illinois; practiced last ten years In Nebraska;
county nttomcy of Wobster county four years, during
which time ho prosecuted the famous Barker murder
case.
The Stamford Post, Harlan county. On another
page Is the announcement of Hon. E. U. Overman of
Red Cloud, a candidate for the republican nomination
for district Judge to succeed Judge Adams, who Is not
a candidate for re-election. Mr. Overman has prac
ticed law for seventeen years, and by hard work has
won the distinction of being one of the leading mem
bers of the bar In southern Nebraska. The only office
ho ever held was that of county attorney, In which
capacity he served Webster county for four yeare.
The first time he was a candidate for this office he was
elected by a majority of two hundred, In spite of the
fact that Vebster county was at that time a fusion
county. Two years later he wa3 re-elected by a greatly
Increased majority. He Is now the unanimous choice
of the people of that county for district Judge. Mr.
Overman Is a well educated man, broad minded, ripe
In experience, and It requires only a brief acquaint
ance to convince one that he possesses the Integrity
and backbone Indispensable to a jurist. His private
life is clean and his morals above reproach. The Post
believes the people of the district will never have Just
cause for complaint If he Is chosen for Judge.
The Harlan County Ranger. E. U. Overman, a
Red Cloud attorney, who has announced himself as a
candidate at the primaries for the republican nomina
tion for the office of district Judge, was In Republican
City last Friday. Mr. Overman has practiced law for
more than seventeen years, is regarded as an able and
honorable practitioner and enjoys an extensive prac
tice. He was county attorney of Vebster county for
two terms. In speaking of Mr. Overman the Red
Cloud Chief says: "His splendid record as county
attorney of this county for two years, during which
time he successfully conducted some of the most im
portant civil and criminal cases the county has ever
had, brought the people of this county to regard him
as a lawyer of great skill and ability."
The Alma Record, Harlan county. The Judicial
campaign in the Tenth district is feeling the effect of
the caloric in the atmosphere and republican candi
dates for Judge Adams' judicial shoes are getting busy
and warm under the legal collar and champ at the po
litical bit. Another aspirant for Judicial preferment In
the saddle at the post, groomed to the last touch of
legal finish, is E. U. Overman, a leading light at the
bar of the Tenth district. Mr. Overman has served
two terms as prosecuting attorney of Webster county,
and Is favorably recognized as an antl-corporatton
lawyer. The Red Cloud entry for the Judicial quarter
stretch Is well mounted with legal acumen, an impar
tial Judicial mind and is an able Jurist. The Webster
county attorney has deposited his entry fee for the
primary handicap on the Tenth Judicial race course to
make the dash on the third of September for the Judi
cial purse the republican nomination for Judge of the
Tenth Judicial district to succeed Judge E. L. Adams,
who Is ruled out and scratched. The ante-primary
betting In the Record pool room is even money on
Hague, Dorsey and Overman for the nomination. Mr.
Overman Invested In a Judicial tip and deposited five
dollars with the Record bookmaker. The Red Cloud
Jurist's card appears at the head of the editorial col
umn.
