Occasionally, how ever, the lobbyist, and legislators al low a pood law to lw placed upon the statutes, but in nine cases out of ten the supreme court finds some excuse for annulling them. Occasionally a good law will stand the test of the Hiiptvme court. One of these is the new tax' law, which has proven a great improvement over the old law. Three years' experience with this law luiK shown great results, yet we believe one or two changes would greatly Improve U. l'or instance, wo believe that where a county has a faithful and etlleicnt assessor like om mid exorcssed her L'ratltude in touch ing sentences. Crcssinan .Monday evening to bid farewell to Elder E. 0. Davis, who has accepted a call to the pastorate of the Christian church at Hebron and will preach his first sermon there next Sunday. Those present were: Rev. Ward L. Austin, pastor of the .M. E. church; Rev. J. M. Hates, rector of the Episcopal church; I Rev. A. A. Cressman, pestor of tlie Congregational church; Elder E. C. Davis, pastor of tho Christian church; Rev. 1. W. Edson, pastor of the IJup tist church, and Father Fitzgerald of the Catholic church. The evening was pleasantly spent in conversation. A connection viiinnrlnililit enillcidcilCC 111 One of the "damphool" pieces of wjth tlie ail'air was that tlie initials of the surnames of the six clergymen present correspond to the first six let ters of the alphabet. We. are always glad to see the old students back with us and are pleased to hear their stories of life In other places, and to give a word of encour agement w herever we can. I The watcli social Mondav evening at the college rooms was well attended by both old and new students. We each made a resolution for the new year, and Prof Dietrich recited and read a poem written especially for this occasion. Many games were pluved and we rang and sang the old vear out, with all oi its laiiurcs, anil the new year in, and decided we were better because we attended. Mr. llall'keinfulea business-like talk to our students on the needs of a stenographer when lie gets out into the business world. Mr. Hall'kehas traveled around this old globe and his experience is something one could envy, 'rite students were wen pieasco with his talk, and he seemed to be well pleased with our school, and he said that in his estimation Red Cloud was almost an ideal place for a school of this kind. Every one who attended the glee club concert secured for Red Cloud by Prof. Dietrich and Prof. Wright of of Franklin gives it tho highest praise one could give such a body of young men. It will soon become known that when the college is behind an attraction it will be good and the pub lie will not be afraid to patronize it. The club should have had two or three times the audience. Those who want good entertainments or concerts in our city must attend them or they won't last. The business men lost IN SI0IJATK CCUiiT. December !iS - In re guardianship of Charles Idndgren.
