ents, charged with the killing of Luke
Goldlo at South Omaha last August,
was found guilty of murder In the
second degree, tho Jury coming In
after a deliberation of over live hours.
When tho defendant was Informed
of thu verdict ho broke down and
cried. Sentence, will bo deferred for
a day or two.

Clinton, la., Oct. 10. Tho marriage
of two Chrlstlno Mlchelsons on the
samo day nlmost brought one of them
to grief. Tho two girls are no rela
tion and arc scarcely acquainted.
Tho marriage license clerk granted
tho license to Anthon von EeBcn to

twenty minutes later Theodore Prop
era arrived and asked for a license to
marry Christine Michclson.
"You are twenty minutes late," said
tho clerk. "Another fellow secured a
license to marry her."
Propers looked abashed and aftor
discussing what ho Bhould do for an
hour finally decided to go and see tho
girl. Ho went, and of course she did
not know anything about Von Essen.
Ilor father accompanied Propers back
to tho offlco and secured the license.
The fact that two girls bore tho samo
name was not discovered until tho
marriage returns wcro mado by the

Seward Grand Jury Will Sift Assaults
on Rev. Lorlmer.
Soward, Neb., Oct 6. Judgo Good
of Wahoo has ordered tho grand jury
to reconvene for Soward county. Con
siderable bad feeling has arisen at
Utlca over the results of tho findings
of the grand Jury In May. Twice since
the May term of court has the Rev.
Mr. Lorimor of Utlca been assaulted.
He has been active In the prosecution
of lawbreakers, and In consequence
has been sovercly handled.

raged by some fiend who attacked
her on tho corner of Twenty-sixth and
Dodge streets, a prominent residence
district, Snturday night, Josephine
Rummelhart, aged forty-two, a shirt
maker, lies at the morguo whllo tho
perpetrator of tho crime Is at large.
Attracted by groans, W. It. Hughes
and Paul Lowe, neighbors, found the
woman dying In tho yard back of tho
Lowe residence. Hor throat was cut,
both eyes woro blackened, sho was
covered with bruises from head to
foot, while a deep gash In her fore
head indicated she had first been
knocked senseless by her assailant.
There Is a strong suspicion among
the detectlveB that the murderer Is a
crazy negro who attempted to asBault

court of tho United States postponed
the cases of tho Chicago, Burlington
and Qulncy railroad and other rail
road companies of Nebraska against
tho various county treasurers of that
state, Involving tho tax law of the
state, until a full bench can be so
cured. Because of tho constitutional ques
tions involved the supremo court of
the United States postponed the hear
ing of tho Irrigation case of Kansas
against Colorado, relating to the dlR
position of the waters of the Arkansas
river, until a full bench Is secured by
tho appolntmont of a successor to Jus
tice Brown.;

Herbert Burke of South Omaha Found
Dead Near Florence. I
Omaha, Oct. 9. Mystery surrounds
tho death of Herbert C. Burke, whoso
lifeless body was found noar the pump
ing station at Florence, lie was ly
ing, face down, midway of an oinbank
nient of cinders near the river. His
appearance was that of a man who
had plunged headforemost down tho
bank. His face was black and blooa
was exuding from his mouth and nos-
trite. Burko was about twenty years
of ago. His father, a well known live
htock commission man at South Oma
ha, died only a couple ot weeks ago.
