Gcoric Ecklor.
"L'nele" George Ecklor, one of the
oldest settlers of Highland. Kansas,
MUYerod a stroke of paralysis two
weeks ago, and died on the afternoon
of September 0, at the home of his
hon. Win. Ecklor. Deceased was 711
.years of age and had lived a consist
ent Christian for many years, and
passed to the great beyond with the
faith that he will live again. Funeral
services were held at the Friends
ohurcli at North I (ranch, Friday
nftcruoou at :i o'clock, and the re
mains laid to rest in the North Ilranch
cemetery. The family have the sym
pathy of their many friends over the
loss of a father, whose advice will
never be forgotten.

Mrs. Gust, wife of Charley Gust of
Line township, died at her home last
Monday, and was buried on Thursday
in Penny creek cemetery, Rev. Hum
mull otlieiating.
Mr. Stahl, a prominent gentleman
of Chicago, who has several stores in
Nebraska, has made arrangements to
open a similar institution in one of
the Moon buildings on 5th avenue.

vices of L. II. Deyo, a graduate of the
Michigan College of Pharmacy and a
thorough and competent druggist,
who will hereafter have charge of the

tric Light Co., went to Franklin the
first of the week and was taken quite
sick while there. However, he re
turned Thursday morning and is again

Robert Harris Is having a new barn
built on his farm, four miles north of
town.
At a meeting of the elty council
last Saturday evening the city clerk
was Instructed to notify electric sup
ply houses that the city would let a
contract on September '20 for the fur
nishing of lamp supplies for the en
suing year.
Newhouse Bros, have this week re
moved a partition in the rear of their
store room thereby lengthening the
room about fifteen feet. This was
made necessary by the Increase of
their stock and the over crowded con
dition of the storeroom.
Commandant J. W. Bresson, of the
soldiers' home at Mllford, is recover
ing rapidly from an attack of nervous
prostration. It was rummored a few
days ago that he had been stricken
with apoplexy, but this was untrue.
He overworked during the national
encampment at Minneapolis, and the
result was a breakdown on his return

Mrs. II. E. Steadman, northeast of
town, is the victim of a rather singu
lar attack of illness. She was in ap
parently good health until Saturday
afternoon of last week, when not
feeling very well, she lay down on a
lounge to rest, sincu which time she
has been unconscious. Such cases,
while somuwhat unusual, are not by
any means unknown to the medical
profession. Their nature and treat
ment is pretty well understood, and
Mrs. Steadman will doubtless be
brought safely out from her serious
