Hairnets of Kensington, Kansas, visit

will hold an apron sale, and serve

A. Soderberg leaves for Lincoln this
morning for a visit and will go from
there to Omaha, where lie has a posi
tion. The Juniors of the high school will
give a banquet at the Royal Hotel
this evening in honor of the Senior
class.
Mrs. Mary Petrie left the first of the
week to join her husband in Lincoln,
where they will make their future
home.
W. II. VanPatten and family went
to Holly, Colorado, Wednesnay morn
ing, where they will make their future

G. L. Lewis of Fairbury, district
deputy of the M. W. A., was in Red
Cloud this week in the interest of the
order.

over sixty telephone were put out of
business by the storm last Friday
morning.
Ralph McConkey, who is now em
ployed in the Hastings electric light
plant, was in Red Cloud the iirst of
the week.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Guthrie were
called to Uurr Oak, Kansas, Friday on
account of the sickness of Mrs. Guth
rie's father.
Mrs. Anna Pope arrived Wednesday
evening from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin,
for a visit with N. L. D. Smith and
other relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Saladen, Mrs. Alta
Frink and Geo. W. Haker of Lester
were in Imperial this week on a land
inspecting tour.
The "Twenty Years Ago" column is
omitted this week owing to there

years ago this week.
Mrs. Ernest Welsch is anticipating
this arrival of her brother-in-law, lierr
Krause, from the old country. He left

Mrs. Harriet Emigh expects to re
turn to her home in Hatavia, Illinois,
Saturday morning, after a pleasant
visit here with friends.
The infant child of Mr. and Mrs.
C. Ayers, living in Franklin county,
died early Tuesday morning and was
buried in the afternoon.

exception of one councilman.
Ed Storey, who has a position as
cook at the Hastings Insane Hospital,
came down to Red Cloud Monday for a
visit with relatives and friends.
Dr. and Mrs. R. F. Raines went to
Lincoln Tuesday morning, where the
Doctor will attend a meeting of the
Nebraska State Medical Society.

A. R. McConnaughey, who has been
employed at Sheard's barber shop,
leaves Sunday for Lincoln, where he
will work in the Palace barber shop.
A. II. Haskins, who has been here
visiting with his brother, L. A. Has
kins and family, returned to his home
in Elroy, Wisconsin, Tuesday morn
ing. 'A. Wells and two sons were down
from Riverton Wednesday. Mr. Wells
bought .'100 fence posts here and saved
about $7 by coming to Red Cloud to
trade.
Guy Tennant has purchased the
residence property just north of M.
C. Sherman's residence, in the south
end of town, and will make his home
there.
Mrs. Carrie McKeeby, Mrs. L. II.
Hlackledge and Mrs. C. D. Robinson
were in Omaha this week attending
the meeting of the Eastern Star grand
lodge.

Word has been received here that
R. D. Jones, formerly in the lumber
and milling business here, lost his
large furniture store in the San Fran
cisco disaster.
One of the features already talked
of for the reunion this fall is a band
contest. It is proposed to offer S'JOO
in prizes, which should attract some
pretty good bands.
About thirty representatives of the
various business houses of Red Cloud
went down to the river yesterday
afternoon and repaired the temporary
bridge so teams could cross.
S. V. Ludlow has received a letter
from a physician in Alameda, Cal.,
stating that his son, Percy Ludlow,
after escaping from the San Francisco
disaster, had been stricken with a
mild form of smallpox.

L. M. Crabill returned from Omaha
Wednesday morning. He brought
back witli him a hearse and a Miller
landau. Neither of the vehicles are
brand new, though both are in line
condition and of up-to-date patterns.
Miss .lessie Wert, who has been tak
ing a course in the Conservatory of
Music at Lincoln, returned to Red
Cloud last Friday and expects to make
tliis place her home. She will give
instructions in vocal and instrumental
music.

day, lie drove ."Sir. Tuber's line driving
mare as far as Rlue Hill, but left her
there on account of the muddy roads.
.Mr. Tuber went up after her Tuesday
morning.
That there will be a great number
of new walks put in this year is cer
tain. Work has already begun. This
week the cement curbing has been put
in for walks in front of the Cotting
and Lindsey blocks and the lots south
of Peterson's implement house, and it
