Jim Abel, tho popular clerk in Miner
Bros.' dry goods department, who has
been visiting in Hebron for tho pnst
two weeks, was taken seriously ill nt
tho home of his biother-in-law, W. W.
Wright, in that city last Friday. His
condition became so alarming that his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Abol, wont
to Hebron Wednesday morning, ae
panied by Dr. Creigbton. When they
arrived there they found that ho was
suffering from an acute attack of ap
pendicitis, and the only hope of saving
his life lay in an operation. Dr. Creigb
ton, assisted by two Hebron physicians,
performed an operation Wednesday,
but from the first thero was little hope
of bis recovery, and death came at 6:10
last evening.
James Abel was about twenty-three
years of age, and bad been a resident
of lied Cloud since a little child. He
has been a clerk in Miner Bros.' dry
goods department since 1898, and was
one of the most popular young men in
the city.
Tho body will arrivo in Red Cloud
this evening.

Shouso is about $200 ahead of tho gamo
O. T. Diekorson, with whom Shouse
boarded, levied on the small stock of
good, etc., left by Shouse, and it is
said tho stuff was also cuvord by a
mortgage.

curred tho wedding of Miss Anna Jen
son, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto
Jonsen, and Mr. Andrew Uoldback, a
Fire at Miner Ranch.
Sparks from a locomotivo Wednes
day set tire to tho dry grass south of
tho big barn on tho Miner ranch, about
three miles west of town, and the high
south wind soon carried the llamcs to
tho building. Tho barn, with its con
tents, as well ns several cribs and sheds
and tho scales were destroyed . Tho
full amount of tho loss cannot be de
termined. Tno ranch is at present
managed by Lawrence and Floyd Mc-Call.
