Weather will be too cold for early

Allium.
The great deficiency in rainfall in
180.") has caused unusual interest in
tho subjects connected with rainfall.
Thcro is ono uuivcrsal remedy for
aridity, one general cure for drouths
and that is tho planting of trees.
If tho people of Canada, Mexico
and tho United States could be
aroued to the importance of planting
trees and preserving timber the future
drouths and floods would be much
less destructive. Krush lands should
bo left, as far as possible to grow up
in timber.
In plaocs many difficulties, from
various causes, aro encountered in
growing fruit trees and forest trees
and for theso diflioultie there aro two
universal romedie?. Undertow irriga
tion and tho iron fertilizer will do the
work.
Whcro trees aro already phntcd
dig your ditch winding among the
trce.v, so as to keep it is nearly as
convenient on level grqund, nuking
tho bottom of the ditch on a water
level, fill in with six to twelve inches
of gravel, broken stone, brickbats or
corn cobs, tamp well, and you will
liavo one of tho remedies.
A good way to tamp tho soil over
the ditch is to drive hoises, single
file, lengthwise over the ditch. Cut
as few roots as possiUo in digging
tho ditch, which should be made deep
enough to be out ol reach of tho
plow. Hoots of trees will grow from
ten to forty foot to get to the moist
ure in theso ditches.
I'm old iron around jour trees, or
iron in any lorm that will nnko rust,
unit it will doublo their vigor and
giowth. Put tin cans around them
and leave them thoro to rust.
Of courso the iron fortiliz-sr dii"
from the earth is tho very best, whore
the mixturo has tho proper ingrcdi
ents, There aro a number of iron
minrs in various parts of the country
but not all of them furnish tho best
fertilizers.

Hut the supply of moisturo is the
question hand, and as the crop season
of '18fl(5 approaohes, tho time Is op
portune for discussing this question.
Tho north Articric.ui continent,
April toOjtober, is dvtided into four
weather districts, each of which has
its own peculiar system of winds and
weather. Draw a I ne from Galvrsti n
by way of L'ort Smith, St. Louis, Co
lumbus. Ohio, and Pittsburgh to New
York city, and nil tho country lying
south and east of that line belongs to
ono system. If this system' is ex
tended, it will take in the northern
portion of Yucatan, all of Cuba and
tho other West India islands.
For this district tho prevailing
winds follow the lino mentioned, bo
ginning at tho southern part of tho
Wst Indies, then by Cuba, Galvest
on, etc., and returning into tho At
lantic about New York City.
Nearer the center of this semi-circle
the wind circulation is less extensive.
It goes from about Ky West by way
of New Orlcaus, Memphis, Louis
ville, and back to the Atlantic near
Richmond, Virginia. The next line
of circulation is inside of the last
mentioned, moving from tho Uaha-
mas northward through Florida, Mont
gomery, Augusta, and baok into the
Atlantic near Chariest m, South Caro
lina. These prevailing winds come from
a high baromoter, and theroloro tho
air comes down from above, and. be
foro reaching tho earth, oithor tho
land or sea, is dry, cool and light, evi
dently being propelled by currents of
electricity. This air soon becomes
saturated with moisture evaporated
from the seas, and serious drouths
would never occur in this district it
the limber was well protected, unless
from causes far to the northwest, out
aide of this district.
This is a subject to which the peo
ple of tho southeastern states should
give very careful study. It is fust
necessary for them to put their own
country in a condition not to invite
drouths and floods, which will par
tially remedy tho Hood and drouth
evils.
Rut there is another potent caue
theso evils which aflocts the south
eastern states, and it is found in the
arid districts west of tho Mississippi.
The storm centers that pass cant
ward through the southern states and
along the -10 h parallel, crossing the
Rooky mountains not far from Don
vcr, uiU'-t bo supplied with moisture.
Tho natural source of this moisturo
would bo tho Gulf of Mexico, but
this is som-jtimes cut oil by the Arid
country lying immediately east of the
Rockies'.
The distance across that arid dis
trict caBt to west is very much short
er than from north to bouth, and
there foro tho moisturo for tho ap
proaching storm centers often comes
from the southeastern states, thersby
robbinu' them of that which would
bring them rain", and a sevcro drouth
is the consequence.
If tho aridity of tho cast of Rook
ies arid districts was broken up, then
the storm centres would not rob tho
southeastern states of their moisturo
as a sufficiency would bo carried from
the western gulf dirotly over western
Texas and eastern Colorado.
