We are called uion this week to record
the sudden and painful death of Master
Fred A. Day, eldest son of Mr. nnd
Mr. Sylvester Day nt the premature age
of sixteen years and sit months. Up to
within forty-eight hours of his death he
was apparently hail and hearty as anv
boy could be, anil hid attended school
regularly, tip to his final sicknes". It
was at intermission, on Wednesday after
noon of last week, that he was compelled
to leave school and take to his IhhI from
which he was never to leave again, until
carried from tho parental roof to the
cold and silent tomb. Death is ad
enough under any and all circumstances
but when it comes almost without warn
ing it is then that it is doubly sad and
hard to liear. This was tlie caso of
Fred Day who while yet in the bloom of
youth wns stricken down and called from
loving friends nnd kindred to "That
bourn from whence no traveler returns."
Fred was held in great esteem by his
schoolmates and teachers, and last Sab
bath, clan Number five of tho high
.school along with many school children,
met nt the school building and follwed
the remains to tho church, where itov
E. A. Kandall delivered tho funeral ad
dreas. The blow is a hard one for Mr.
Day's family and they certainly have the
sympathy of their many friends in Ked
Cloud, in thetr hour of griof. Tin: Cheik
extends its heartfelt sympathy.

question as to who would be president

satisfaction to the senate this morning,

crowded forward to congratulate the

It seems to us that as election of city
oflicers draws near, that it would not bi
a bad idea to elect a very economical
board. The cominjr municipal jar
should lx looked after carefully. There
are no matters of import that are liable
to come before us for some months, nnd
therefore we should strive to make the
expenses of next year very light. We
are sailing under almost too high colors
for the condition of on people at the
present time. Economy should be the
watchword in our next election.
