EL O 3 O 3 Our state senators have made good use of their time during tae adjourn ment of congress. They have intro duced several valuable bills for the consideration of congress. Daniel F. Brewer, of Kansas, has been appointed associate justice of the supreme court of the United States, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Justice Mathews. The presidents message to congress is said to be one of the most state manlike documents ever issued by any of our illustrious presidents. It contained about 20,000 words. Lloyd Crabill now has full posses sion of the street railway. We be lieve that if Mr. Crabill will run the cars every 30 minutes that he would build up a good trade. The fare should be put dawn to a nicklc, and tbc cars run for the accomodation of the people as much as possible. If the cars could be run at stated per iods so that people could depend on them the traffic would be much great er. The Ciiief wants to see Mr. Crabill succeed and believes ihat if he will make an effort to accomo date the traveling public public, that the public in turn will appreciate it and help him ont. Congress has convened and it is to be hoped that they will do something to relieve the stringency of the mon ey markets. The cry comes up frcm all over the country thac raonoy is scarce and hard t get hold of. If congress would put its foot upon some of the "Lords of creation" who arc hording millions upon millions of dollars iu their vaults of ill gotten gains, it will have done a great good. Then again these monstrous mono polies' should be crushed out of existence as they are the means of making the poor poorer. What legis lation there has been made for the benefit ot thfjfpbor has been made by the rcpubliWB party, and The Chief hopof that it will not bo slow in bring ing about the necessary relief that is demanded. It is all right for men to ain riches, but no one man or set of men should he allowed to fence in the earth to the great detriment to the majority. Mrs. A. G. Titus and 31rs. W. Hill Business is picking up in Bed Cloud, as is evidenced by the liberal patronage of the advertising columns of The Chief. We have been com pelled to print supplements for the last sixty days in order to give our usual quota of news. Our circula tion is gapidly growing and advertis ers find that it pays to invest their money where it does them the most good. The grand bail given by the rail road boys last Thursday evening was a gran a ailair, and is reported as bc- ing one (f th e finest and most social entertainments that has ever taken place in the city. 3Iuch has been said about railroad boys, but when you find a class of men that have big. gcr hearts, more liberal, and enjoy life better tnan th;y do, ws want to sec them. We are pleased to be able to report the success of the entertain ment. The boys richly deserve it. The county press is discussing the commissioner system at some length for several weeks. For various rea sons not here necessary to mention, the present system is decidedly the most popular not to say the best. A supervisor from each township can much better attend the needs of the county and their constituency than can three men. While the present system is a little more expensive its workings will be much more satisfac tory. Blue Hill Leader. All Inequalities Of The Eyes. Dogs seldom wear their own pants, Which fact lays them open to scorn; No nephew'or niece fancies ants, And a cow never blows her own horn. A cat cannot parse its own claws, No porcupine nibs his own quill ; Though orphan bears still have their pawn, A bird will not pay its own bill.
