Mr. Hummel is the rednhlicau nominee.
With faction ;1 iiyhls at Red cloud the
TOters of the county have nothing to do.
Let Ited cloud settle its own fights in its
own way. or lot it keep on lighting, just
as it p'enso. It is the duty of republi
cans to support their ticket. Red cloud
is not Webster oonnty. and if the repub
licans there are so foolish as to bring dis
cord into their party, let them confine it
to tlu county s..i!. Thecountry orcinats
want noihlr: t j do with their little jan
gles. This county is overwhelming re
publican. A few gentlemen in Red cloud
think they can make it democratic when
ever they please. Vho have tried it be
foroand failed. We rather think they
will experience a more dismal failure this
time. Vote straight and elect the entire
republican ticket. cowles Herald.
Lawa for Coajcrea.
At the republican congressional con
vention at Hastings last Monday, that
noble patriot and soldier, Gilbert L Laws,
was nominated tor congress. There were
several ballots taken, and several men
in the field, bnt G. L. Laws, Geo. H. Has
tings, N. V.Har'nn were iu the lead, and
finally when Webster county changed its
vote to Laws, it. seemed to be the signal
for a goneral cht-ajro, and Laws was de
clared the Hnaniruous choice of the con
vention. Mr. Laws will make an able
congressman aud will represent the dis
trict in an able manner.
The Cnizr has a notion to write a col-

bessism1'. There is need of it. There
never was a small community so sorley
afflicted with political bosses as our own
possibly not o jn-i-h on account of their
number as their character. They are the
same croud who sought the defeat of Mc
Nitt two years ago. One or two have been
heard to openly boast ho could call to his
aid fonror five m'U in Ked clondand con
trol tho votes of this county, and ha pro
poses to do that xrry thing at tho coming
election. We still have confidence in the
people and believe when they are heard
from again these small bore political
bosses MeKeehy Simons et al wi'l present
the appearance of ha vim; been under the
