W. N. King is dying as fast as prob
ably any boy ever died of consumption
Death is written in every lineament
of his features. He is fearfully ema
ciated and is so weak that he scarcely
can move about. In view of these
facts, County attorney Mahoney yes
terday asked the court to send the
prisoner, now in the county jail ac
cused of forgery, to the poor farm, that
he might meet death amid somewhat
more comfortable surroundings. A cer
tificate from the county physician
will be furnished to-day, and King
will then be committed to the poor

For a number of months past Un
cle Dan Metcalf, as he is familiarally
known by our people, has been con
fined to his bed by sickness, and has
betn gradually fading away toward
the golden shores of the great future,
dissolution occurring finally last
Thursday morning at his residence on
8th Avenue. He had lived in Red
Cloud and vicinity for about 17 years,
and by correct habits and his daily
walks in life he made hosts of friends
and gained a lasting friendship that
time can only wash away. He was
born in 1809, in Steubea county, N.
Y and consequently was almost 80
years old, during which period he
made the best of the opportunities
given him by his creator. He was
man whom all respected and learned
to revere.
He leaves a large family to mourn
his demise. About 30 years ago he
joined the Odd Fellow's and re
mained one during that time aad up
to his death, which society conducted
the services this morning, A large
number of relatives aad frieads follow
ed the remains to their last resting
place. Peace be to his ashes, aad
may his spirit in its happy flight to
reilm of bliss be the harbinger of a
bright existence in the great hereaf
