I saw an ugly little 'nubbin of

those. I had on tho spot. My plunder

caught it and carried it away. The man
went after it, and in his hurry letffo his
hold on the dog. Then the dog ,went
forme. By casting out some of my
ballast It .managed to rise clear of the
brute and sail Slowly away. I reached
the adjoining clearing all right and
waa juit going to finish tho trip by dis

who had quietly .sneaked through the

meand then it was so pretty, and that
beastly dog had his ugry teeth in one
of tho prettiest embroidered' flowers
with which it was trimmed.
. While this all ran through my mind"
in that one second, I plucked another
pumpkin and fed it to him raw.. It was'
a soft-shell pumpkin, and "Holdfast"
absorbed it mostly through the medium
of his eyes and ears, the only way I
could feed it to him. lint he held tight
on until, remembering I had a bottle
of ammonia in my pocket, I gave him
a sniff of it, when he let ffo and fell in
tho branches of a high tree, wh'cro I
left him to climb down. Since that
time I huvo never been ablu to eat
