The following resolution was adopted
by tho board:
Whereas, information has bcon re
ceived by tho board of county super
visors that an unequal distribution of
patronago as to printing stationery, etc.,
having existed botween tho Webster
County Argus, Red Cloud Chief and
the Red Cloud Hklmct, as per former
understanding between said papers mid
tho board of county supervisors,
Therefore bo it resolved by tho board
of supervisors that it is the wish of said
board that tho matter as referred to,
be adjusted by tho above-named pa
pers. Tho following resolution was adopted
by tho board:
Whereas, a special jail tax has here
tofore been levied and collected, and
lying in tho treasurer's office,
Therefore, bo it resolved, that at tho
next general election Nov. 0, 1888, there
shall bo submitted to the election of
Webster county, Nebraska, tho ques
tion: "Shall tho board of supervisors ap
propriate from tho jail fund an amount
not to exceed $10,000 for the purpose
of building a jail for said county?"
Voters desiring to vote against said
appropriation shall have written or
printed on their ballot the words
"Against jail proposition."
Voters desiring to vote for said prop
osition shall have written or printed on
their ballot "For jail appropriation."
The county clerk is instructed to
draw tho warrants for claims allowed
at this meeting on tho general surplus
fund now on hand, until tho different
balances are exhausted, taking the
claims in the order of their allowance,
then draw tho remainder ou tho general
fund levy of 18S8, except such as aro
for bridges, which ho will draw ou tho
bridge low of 1887.
Mark Noble was appointed by tho
board as tho member to reprcsont this
couuty on the committeo to draft a
bill to auicnd'the township laws of this
state.
I. B. Hampton offered his resigna
tion as a member of this board and tho
samo was accepted.

improved the discipline of tho
school.
Mr. Haydcn, formerly of Crete,
visited our schools Monday.
Miss King, county superintendent,
was a pleasant caller Tuesday after
noon, Miss Brown and Mrs. White visited
tho high school Friday afternoon.
Tho Friday ufternoon exercises
the first of the present school year
canio off as per program. All were
fairly rendered. We think that these
exercises cannot fail to bo productive
of good results. Wo do not fail to
recognize tho fact that all great liter
ary achievements had small begin
ningstheir distinguished traits de
veloped through effort. Hence, hope
of attaining some laudable degree of
literary standing as high school pu
pils will urgo us to our work.
