ond Congressional Districtof the state
of Nebraska arc invited to send dele
gates from their several counties to
meet in convention at Hastings,
Wednesday, September 22nd, 1886 at
7:30 p. m. for the purpose of nominat
ing one candidate for congress, and
the transaction of such other business
as may properly bo presented to the
convention. The several counties arc
entitled to representatives as follows,
being based upon the votes cast for
Leavitt Burnham in 1885, except as
to Chase county, for regent of the un
iversity, with one delegate from each
county for every 150 votes and the
major fraction thereof, and one dele
gate at large from each county:

sentative. We believe Mr. Kenney

Guide Rock Signal has the following:
"We have been furnished the score in
the game of base ball between the
Guide Rack and Red Cloud clubs yes
terday, but refuse to publish the tame.
The Signal is well prepared to print a
delinquent tax list in a creditable man
ner, but when figures pile up as they
did on the score sheets yesterday we
beg. to be excused from reproducing
them. More than that, when tallies
are run up, balls muffed, etc., after the
manner of yesterday, it ceases to be
base ball and comes in under tbe head
of "ante over" andlnot even the most
progressive of sporting papers have
yet taken to reporting that venerable
game."

Two families living in the south
ward are in destitute circumstances.
On Thursday a Chief reporter accom
panied by Messrs. Joseph Garber and
M. R. Bentley visited their places of
abode and learning the circumstances.
Mr. Garber gave an order for fuel to
one and an order for supplies to the
other. The ladies' aid society have
also contributed to their relief. Mrs.
Knapp, one of the parties has a family
of five or six small children to care for
Mr. Knapp was in poor health for
years, and dying left the family in des
titute circumstances. Mrs. Knapp has
relatives living in Omaha, and an ef
fort will be made to assist her to reach
them. The other family is in still
worse circumstances. The father, S.
M. Williamson, having cruelly desert
ed thenii leaving his sick wife and
helpless children to the cold charities
of the world, and also under the er
roneous impression that he had step
ped oyer into the shadowy beyond'
Hub is a charitable community and
our citizens will do all in their power
to alleviate the wants of the needy.

ber 15 to 21. We wish to extend our
heartfelt thankt to the people of Red
Cloud for the kindness they have

Tent Elders.
Honest Words. The Gi eat Western
Circus exhibited here last Saturday,
giving Iwo entertainments, afternoon
and evening, to a packed tent of peo
ple, and it was th bijigeit little show
that eyer visited Dodge. Mr. Johnson
the proprietor, aims to please his
patrons, and generally succeeds, as he
done here. It is strictly firat-class,
carrying with them such talent as the
Melville Bros., who are simply im
mense. Mrs. Johnson and her two
daughters, Ella and Edna, ajjed 9 and
13 years take a very interesting part in
the entertainment so also the Levis
Bros., who are hard to beat in their
specialties. Mr. Cuilms, the clown
end his team of goata are a bi card.

county central committee met at the
law office of J. S. Gilham, at 2 o'clock
p. m. Meeting was called to order by
A. 31. Walters, chairman.
On motion W. G. Kinsey was elected
committeeman for Guide Rock town
ship; E. F. Highland, 1st ward; R. V.
Shirey, 2nd ward, Red Cloud.
On motion it was recommended that
the township primaries be held on
Thursday, September 16, 1886.
On motion recommended that no
delegate be allowed to vote in the
county convention without first pro
ducing their credentials, showing they
were legally elected at their township
primaries, said credentials to be hand
ed to the chairman of the county cen
tral committee, and holders assigned
seats in the convention.
On motion the apportionment was
made on the basis of one delegate to
every 20 votes and major fraction
thereof on the vote cast for Leavitt
Burnham.
On motion that the township com
mitteeman elected here today (E. F
Highland, 1st ward, and R. V. Shirey,
2nd ward, Red Cloud, and W. G. Kin
sey. of Guide Rock) be authorized to
call the township primaries. Motion
carried.
