COX?118BIOXAI. BErUBLICAN CONVEN

of Nebraska are invited to send dele

Wednesday, September 22nd,. 188C at
7:30 p. m. for the purpose of nominat
ing one candidate for congress, and
the transaction of such other business
as may properly be presented to the
convention. The several counties arc
entitled to representatives as follows,
being based upon the votes cast for
Leavitt Burnham in 1885, except as

It is recommended that no proxies

are-given.
H. B08TWICK, Chairman.
W. E. Stark, Secretary.
Hastings, Neb., August 18, 1880.
Jim Gilmam, of Red Cloud, has spme
friends living in the Republican. Val
ley who want to send him to congress.
Mr. Laird, ot Hastinns, of course, will
object. HaMtHfn Ikmocrut.
The real object of Chevalier Bayard's
attempt to secure Cuttins's release is
obvious. He wants him to come to
to Nebraska and start a paper in the
intent of Van Wyck.- State Journal
This is altogetlier too Cutting.
The prohibition party of Nebraska
have nominated a state ticket which
will be found elsewhere in our paper
which we publish by request. The
convention, is said to have been very
harmonious. Just what our prohibi
bition. brethren expect to accomplish
by this move we have not been able
to learn. As fur as The Chief is con
cerned, while we belive in temperance
we also believe that the grand old re
publican party U tho one to grapple
with this great evil, and will do it.
Wherever tnere is a state with prohi
bition government, that state will be
found republican in politics. The
world has not been Christianized in a
moment, nor in many hundred years.
and consequently nil great reforms
have to coeae on by degrees, in order
to awaken the proper aentiment in the
Meats. The republican party has
dene all it could for temperance, and
will always be found in the front rank
of all redraw as the public demand
them.
