The I'nion Pacific officials arc busily engaged in closing up the details of their fast express scheme, which is certain to go into operation at once. The Centeral Pacific has given assur ance that it will co-operate in the matter. That road will adjust trains so that going eastward from San Fran cisco to Ogden the time will be short ened one hour, and going westward two and one half hours. Between Omaha and Odgen. both eastward and westward' tho Union Pacific will short en its time twelve hours, making the running time between those two points thirty six hours, instead of forty eight, as at present. "The train will be put on July 15. 1S-G if something at present untorsecn does not prevent," said a I'nion Pacific official to day. ''It will leave Omaha in the morning, taking the place of the overland, and will make the trip be tween Omaha and 'Frisco in sixtv or less." me. Well, the dry but glib tongue of the trickster plausibly as-ailed one after an other of the critics on the list, but their excuses deprived him ot the exacted reward of his earne-t endeavor. Di couraged and desperate, he at length said to one who had declined hi- invi tation to imbibe with the management: "For heaven's sake, m dear fellow, don't let me die of thirst in the desert.
