Bairp has recently re ceived quite an interesting lot of Ori ental curiosities from her daughter Mrs. Denney, consisting of some fine specimens of Japanese lloral hand paintings, a sprig of Japan tea. and photographs of Japanese idols, streets, etc. IIesry Cook is unhappy. He is the victim of misplaced confidence. It keeps him busy all the time buying knives, saws, hammers, screw-drivers, shears, etc., for he no sooner equips himself with one set before some one walk's oil" with them. Therefore Hen ry's trouble. There seems to be no doubt but that the B & M propose to build the Red Cloud and Kansas South-western to Wa-Keeney during the coming year At least every indication points "that way. Now then, let us have some other railroads and the future of Red Cloud will be settled. Farmers can not be too careful about turning their cattle into corn fields. All over the state comes the news that cattle'are dying from over feeding. Nine cases out of every ten where cattle die this time of year the cause can be traced to the cornfield. There is no necessity for being uneasy as long as people are cautious about feeding the cattle. It is an outrage that after our people have subscribed the necessary number of instruments for a telephone ex change that the Nebraska Telephone company will not put them up for us Over forty instruments were taken by our citizens, yet we cannot get them put in for some cause. If poor Joe could havr, seen ,im. ,. . ,, .. , sell as the iW artist saw him. we venture the assertion that the doctors never could have induced him to re - t;;rn again to this vale of tears. The concern on which the victim Miflercd is represented by six sticks diverging from a common center like the -pokes of a wagon wheel, holes bored through the outer end of the spokes through which a clothes line is passed and cur tains hung between the spaces probab ly intended to protect Cook from the wind. Joe's left arm and leg are tied to seperate spokes pointing heaven ward, his right leg is lashed to a spoke around which one of the curtain ap pears to have been wound, hi right arm is secured by a rope tied to a ring near tht. hub of the wheel while his bdy and head calmly repose on a cur tain between two spoken.
