dwelling houses have been erected this
season at a cost of $!00.uoo. It has
2 000 inhabitants and is thirteen years
old and is nearly an entire republican
town, v. Inch accounts for its prosper
ity. Land th t was worth $10 per acre
near Hastings (4 miles north of lied
(loud) six ears ago, is now worth from
$40 to $f0. and unimproved land in the
Republican vjlley that was then worth
from ?2 to 53 is now worth. 10 The
trains are constantly ciowded with per
sons seeking new homes, and emigrants
are Hocking in thicker than ever be
fore. The republican valley is without
a doubt better for stock and all kinds
of grain raising than most other'parts.
Considering the amount of gras spread
over thoje almost, unlimited prairies,
shows that great wealth can be obtain
ed with small labor. The soii is of a
rich, black loom, mixed with small
portions ol sand. AH grains are grown
with extraordinarv success. Broom
corn, sorghum and many other kinds
of grain are grown from firt breaking
or sod, and a great profit is derived
therefrom. The 10 land in the Re
publican valley will produce larger
crops than our $."i0 land will, v.-hich in
five or ten years will be worth as much
or more than ours. A person visiting
NcbrasKA in Autumn causes him to
think he need not seek further for
good cji-innte d health. No mud to
contend with as wo have in Iowa, h
matters not how much rain falls, rhe
roads are at all times solid and nqt cut
tip. Year .by year as the soil is broken
and vegetation increases there,is more
rain. Cattle in the many herds that
may be seen dotted over the extensive
prairies, aie in excellent condition and
many of them are of superior grades.
